They have actually invited a collector, from my hometown that i am friends with, GOMAZ, to come and help take pictures of all the new patch cards in this years cup Hockey!! Big step in the right direction. This was due to a direct result of the recent patch faker getting caught!!

I can't read the link because it requires registration, but it sounds like this could really be a great thing. There just needs to be a searchable database and it will make everything so much easier on high-end collectors. If they continue the trend for each product, UD has started us on the road to legit patches.

Yeah, i guess HI requires you to sign up to read their threads. Basically an HI member that i know, "called out" UD and said he would pay for his airfare and Hotel and supply the camera and database to take pictures of this years UD CUP Hockey patch cards. UD (Chris Carlin and Karvin Cheung) has taken him up on his "offer" and he will be on his way to Cali in a couple weeks.

This an gonna be a "test" with the cup. If it goes well, it will continue in other sports.

It's nice to know that UD is taking action, but don't you guys think this is BS?!?!? Why did someone have to call them out and why does someone have to pay their own way for them to get the point???? People have been contacting their fraud department for years now about fake patch cards.

Damn it! How am I supposed to put out fake cards now? This sucks.







On a serious note - The need to put little cards in their pack or something saying about the database and where to find it. That way all collectors who purchase these are informed. I know that some will still be in the dark, but that's the best way to reach the masses who don't frequent sites like this.

I am pleased to report to the hobby that Upper Deck has responded to my offer below. I made this offer publicly in the thread started by Bruce titled: "Patch forger... caught! gomaz would be proud ". The post below was post #208.

EDIT - As it may be too late for this year's Cup, my offer stands for next season's release of UD Black, SPA, OPCP and Cup.
On Friday June 12, I received a call from Chris Carlin asking if I was serious (thank you to Bruce for providing Chris with my phone number). I responded that if the timing works (vacation from work) that I am, in fact, serious. He then confirmed that Upper Deck would like to invite me to the pack-out and will grant me access to photograph the patch cards from the upcoming 08-09 The Cup.

I have since discussed same with Karvin. While all the details are not yet worked out in terms of how, when and where the images will be made available, I can confirm that they will be in my possession.

As a collector who has attempted to battle the fake patch problem for three years, I am very greatful and extremely pleased that Upper Deck is stepping up and allowing me to do this for the hobby. This is a major advancement for our hobby and I would like to acknowledge and thank Chris and Karvin for making this happen.

I also want to mention that I will be travelling at my own cost. While I am thrilled to be able to attend the pack-out, the thrill will quickly fade as I am tasked with capturing images of approximately 25,000 cards.

This is a major step in the right direction. This is a test case and if successful, will hopefully be applied to future brands and releases as well.

If this unfolds the way I intend it to, this particular issue may be a thing of the past.

Again, I want to express just how pleased I am. I have restored faith in Upper Deck. In my opinion, this proves that Chris and Karvin do care about us collectors and our cards.
