i dont understand what basketball and football has to do with this....but as you said yankees are the best team in baseball all time, just wanted to hear it from a redsox fan

What Basketball and Football have to do with this is all Boston fans are fans of all the sports, and you get the attitude, which really has only been around for 5 years now because in recent history this town has dominated all sports, not just one.

The Celtics have one championship this decade as well as one 15th place finish. Four teams have appeared in at least two finals during that time. They have had two excellent seasons, one of which ended in the second round. In no way, shape or form have they dominated the NBA in "recent history".

And despite saying "Boston fans are fans of all the sports" you earlier dismissed the Bruins as not counting. And aside from last year's excellent regular season, they've sucked.

I don't count hockey as a major sport. Pro Wrestling, Golf and Nascar are more followed than hockey around here now.

explain to me your head to head comment about lakers celtics please?

They have met once in the last decade for a championship, and the Celtics made the Lakers look silly resulting in the biggest comeback in a finals game, and the biggest blow out.

I'm kind of more impressed that the Yanks are ahead of the Sox despite that 0-8 H2H.

its interesting to me that Red Sox fans assume that the Yankees should be in complete panic mod and are not a "relevant team" because they have had a little drought in terms of a World Series championship. They didnt win one from 1978-1996!! thats an 18 year drought and the some how seemed to stay relevant through that. Im happy the Yankees finished today in 1st place but there is plenty of the season to go and im sure there will be many more ups and downs for both the sox and Yankees.

They weren't very relevant in that time period. Hell Steinbrenner was banned from the game during that period. There was no Red Sox Yankees rivalry in the 80's and 90's because there never was a time when both teams were great.

I only originally threw Basketball in due to the lack of a Major League Franchise in New York City by the way.

yeah but according to you its more important that the redsox have won twice in this decade and 26 titles overall dont matter for the yanks....so therefore 4 titles is more than the celtics 1 correct..

Yes, the Lakers have been better this decade. My original point was comparing BOSTON TO NEW YORK hence the Basketball and Football points.

But the Lakers had as big a collapse as the Yankees vs a Boston team last season.

Blowing a 24 point lead vs the Celtics, then getting beaten like they did in the deciding game.

AND FINALLY YOU HAVE PROVEN MY POINT....YOU WONT GO BACK INTO YANKEES HISTORY BECAUSE ITS ONLY IMPORTANT WHAT HAPPENED IN "YOUR LIFETIME" BUT FOR CELITCS YOU CAN GO BACK INTO HISTORY.......HAHA I KNEW YOU WOULD DO THAT[/quote:19fh3jtb]

In my life time championship wise it's 2-2, this decade it's 1-0.[/quote:19fh3jtb]

yeah but according to you its more important that the redsox have won twice in this decade and 26 titles overall dont matter for the yanks....so therefore 4 titles is more than the celtics 1 correct..[/quote:19fh3jtb]

Yes, the Lakers have been better this decade. My original point was comparing BOSTON TO NEW YORK hence the Basketball and Football points.

But the Lakers had as big a collapse as the Yankees vs a Boston team last season.[/quote:19fh3jtb]

ummm explain how lakers had a collapse?[/quote:19fh3jtb]

Blowing a 24 point lead vs the Celtics, then getting beaten like they did in the deciding game.[/quote:19fh3jtb]

so it was a collapse that they lost to a team with ray allen, paul pierce and kevin garnett? and the fact that they were already down two games was a collapse? i can see if they were up 3 to 0 and lost but seriously dude stick to baseball

i dont understand what basketball and football has to do with this....but as you said yankees are the best team in baseball all time, just wanted to hear it from a redsox fan

What Basketball and Football have to do with this is all Boston fans are fans of all the sports, and you get the attitude, which really has only been around for 5 years now because in recent history this town has dominated all sports, not just one.

Well considering the Fan base for the sox has doubled since 04, and the Celtics fanbase has also doubled since 07, I'd have to say Boston Fans are the best bandwagon fans in all of sports.

And to the 0-8. Imagine if the Yankees had won those 8 games. They would be 64-29, and Boston would be 47-46. What is that 17 games back? They would though be in third place.

I think that it shows that the Yankees are the better team. When the sox played the first 5 games they were playing an A-rod-less team with a CC in his early season slump.

Now the Yankees are really clicking. It is the second half, where the Yankees strive and well, the Sox don't.

With Hughes and mo, the game is done in the 7th, Joba is getting better, and only 3 of the remaining 10 games are at Fenway. The Sox offense isn't hitting at all, bay is hitting under .200 for the last month and a half, Wakefield is injured, and Matsuzaka is injured.

The Sox have two players hitting over .300 (.304, and.302), their rotation whith Wakefield has a 44yr old and a 42yr old.

Right now, I say the Yankees have a much better chance of winning then the sox. Unless the sox pick up a Bat and a pitcher, I don't see them keeping up.

Winning 8 in a row this year is nothing compared to winning 4 in a row in 2004.

As a Yankee fan, whenever I would bring up stuff like this, I was always told by Red Sox fans I was "living in the past." That is all.

2004 is a little different than 1998...

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/roster.php?y=1998&t=BOS

The 1998 Sox had maybe 2 Hall of Famers on the Roster, one of which was very at the end of his career, and one was Pedro.

KEITH MITCHELL PLAYED ON THAT TEAM!!!

I was talking about the last time the Yankees were relevant (1998-2000). At least Red Sox fans do not have to go back a full decade to talk about something relevant. A decade without winning is a pretty big sorespot for a team that nearly doubles everyone else's payroll every year.

who cares if its a full decade or not, it happened and if you want to say its the past than you can say the 07 and 04 season was the past....the fact is boston has a lot of games to win before they get 26 titles...and im a tigers fan but i hate how the redsox think they are the greatest team in baseball all time[/quote:2yzxrelm]

What matters to me, as a baseball fan, is that they are the greatest team of MY lifetime. While baseball history is important, the way my team performs during MY lifetime is much more important to me.[/quote:2yzxrelm]

They have met once in the last decade for a championship, and the Celtics made the Lakers look silly resulting in the biggest comeback in a finals game, and the biggest blow out.[/quote:11k5f9p5]

sooo what about every other year were celtics were dead last and lakers killed them....i mean duh they didnt meet in the finals because celtics were shat, head to head would be different if they could have actually made playoffs before getting KG[/quote:11k5f9p5]

But over all it's a head to head rivalry that is even more lopsided than Sox Yankees.

Year Winner Series
1959 Boston Celtics 4–0
1962 Boston Celtics 4–3
1963 Boston Celtics 4–2
1965 Boston Celtics 4–1
1966 Boston Celtics 4–3
1968 Boston Celtics 4–2
1969 Boston Celtics 4–3
1984 Boston Celtics 4–3
1985 Los Angeles Lakers 4–2
1987 Los Angeles Lakers 4–2
2008 Boston Celtics 4–2[/quote:11k5f9p5]

It was the biggest lead blown in an NBA Finals game correct? It was also the worst defeat in NBA history in a deciding game correct? I rest my case.

who cares...the celtics were up 2 to 0 going into game 3, the lakers werent given a chance after game 2 anyways so that doesnt count as a collapse smart one
