I'd rather have a dominate closer as a setup man for $12m than a mediocre closer for $12m.

I'm hoping that Joba has been working in the offseason. I assume he will got to ST preparing for a starting pitching role. If he fixes whatever he has been holding back he will be ok.

Once the Yankees started messing with his pitchcounts things got really bad. If you want to see what I mean, look HERE

He had very respectible numbers going into August, then they held him at 50 pitches a game. hmmm. Joba's last great start came 6/29/09 against the Rays, a three hitter with no ER.

I also find it weird that Joba just lost 5 mph off his fastball, he must he holding back for some reason. Hopefully a new pitching coach will help and he can pitch like he did in 2009 before the pitch count.
Joba is making $12M?

No.
Then who is the mediocre closer?

I'm assuming he is referring to Jonathan Papelbon

What a surprise, a shot at the Red Sox. Pretty sure that no Red Sox fans took any shots at the Yanks on this thread, even I thought it was a good signing for the Yanks.

vwnut, you are frackin' pathetic.....

You know what, f_ck it....you are going on the foe list, so tired of your trolling bullshi t. Not sure why I didn't do it earlier...

Its okay, they will pay Jeter $20+ million to hit .270 with 10 homeruns. Should have let him walk and sign Julio Lugo for that production for $1 million. Silly Yankees.

Whats a Yankee thread without skrip ripping on Jeter ;)

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. He is actually the only yankee I don't like. Wait, I liked, Swisher is my nemisis....

VNUT just begs for people to pound on Yankees.

Seems like Cashman didn't want this deal because of the money (too much) and draft pick. However the brothers Steinbrener overruled him and said to get him.

On paper this looks good. We'll see what happens when it's playtime.

By the way, I was comparing two players. Soriano and Papelbon.

One of them had a dominant season, the other had a mediocre season. Is there any disputing that?

The one who had the dominant season is getting paid less than the one with the mediocre season.

I posted this because it is pretty hard to bash spending $11.6 on a setup man wen someone who gave up over twice as amny runs is getting paid more to close. The same would have gone for any closer, it just happen Papelbon is the only one who fits that catagory.
