As an A's fan, I love this signing. It has to mean that the A's will be moving to San Jose shortly, right? .... right?

Well since they just spent all of their money on a pitcher...not likely. I hope they saved some money for gas.

You do realize Cespedes is an OF, right?

I sure as hell hope so. Would make it much easier for me to see games, but more importantly they'd have a chance of breaking 10k/game. Such a sad franchise.

But why unload the pitching staff then make a splash like this? It makes little sense.

It is pretty sad. Especially if you grew up watching the Bash Brothers. The A's were THE team for a while. They fell off hard.
In the early 00's when they were in the playoffs regularly I went to a number of the games with the Yanks in town.

Playoffs.
Yanks.
Good team.
Relatively cheap tics.
Large population (including the entire Bay Area)

STILL couldn't sell out.

Just a mess of a franchise. It really is too bad.

size and skills wise...who does Cespedes compare to? past or present
If he adjusts well to the league, I think he'll resemble Ron Gant. A very good player.
Of course that's a big "if" at this point.

Glad I sold a gold refractor when he wasn't going to Oakland.

Ditto..sold mine last week! I was hesitant because of the chance he may have gone to to the Cubs and if that was the case figured it would go for even more than the BIN I had listed. Glad I sold and the buyer may be having some remorse.

The oakland a's are one of the hardest teams to figure out in baseball.

I'm thinking he might have seen Money Ball recently, and wanted to play for Brad Pitt.

Man is he going to be pissed when he realizes the Mets aren't paying for Soda anymore.

Really? Gant was one of my absolute favorites to watch as a kid. :)

Can Cespedes launch fastballs 500 ft? Does he have that kinda strength?

He's supposed to be a freak athlete. The question on him is if his baseball skills will be refined enough.
