As an Astros fan, even though he was before my time, I'll go with J.R. Richard. Big, mean, intimidating, and dominant. It's too bad that some hack doctors and team administrators didn't listen to his complaints of arm numbness and fatigue that were precursors to a stroke that ended his career at the age of 30.
Is it weird that he was the first player that came to my mind? When I saw the thread title I tried to think of pitchers who threw a devastating fastball and he's who I first thought of. Is he still alive today?

Yes he is. He made some bad business decisions after baseball and ended up homeless in Houston living under an overpass. He got back on his feet after finding religion and getting a job at a local church and, last I heard, was still living in Houston.

Do I have to pick a pitcher? Because I think if I had Ichiro and Clemente and Tris Speaker on my team, I could just increase my stand-off distance and have them rain down accurate snowballs from 300-400 feet away.

Jimmy Piersall from the Redsox. He was bi-polar, in a snowball fight you could tell him the opponents were his father and he'd run a kamakazi mission for you!
