Baseball is such a high variance game, there is a reason you have to play it 100+ times to get a good sample size of skill.
If you make the WC now you're basically less than half a playoff team. To get to the (real) playoffs you must burn a good pitcher. Look at the 95 Mariners having to burn Big Unit to get into the playoffs and it messing up the pitching order.
