Everyone remembers those guys that took the collecting world by storm for about a week - they pitched a no-hitter, had a sizzling debut game, or just did everything right for a brief 7 day period. Who ranks among your favorite "one week wonders?" My list includes:

Carlton Loewer and Bud Smith - 2 guys who pitched no-hitters for the Cardinals early in their careers and exploded on eBay and the trading boards on AOL for a brief time

Chris Shelton - remember him out of the gate in 2004? You couldn't sell his guys stuff fast enough on eBay.

Karl "Tuffy" Rhodes - 3 homers on Opening Day for the Cubs and then fell off the face of the earth, only to become a legend in Japan.

Anyone else?

I think you're mixing up Carlton Loewer with Jose Jimenez. He was the other Cards rookie, along with Smith, to have a rookie no-hitter.

Bought some low numbered Shelton auto rc from a $2 box right before opening day at a show I stayed over night at.

A week later I sold it and it covered my hotel stay plus more. That's how hot he was.

I indeed got them confused in my head:

Loewer was for the Phillies and pitched 2 great games out of the gate and faded into mediocrity soon thereafter. Jimenez pitched the world's ugliest no hitter for the cardinals.

This was the first name to come to my mind. I'm thinking it may have been a bit longer than a week. I remember him at a signing in December after the season and it was free. The place was mobbed to get an auto and only one per person. I took my wife and friend and got his Bowman RC and the Sports Illustrated with him on the cover signed. Then he went away silently.

Benny Agbayani for the Mets. I was away from the hobby when he had his week or 2 but I know he was a fantasy beast.

Adam Greenberg (ESPN 30 for 30 story). Flipped quite a few of his autographs while the story was trending.

I remember getting like $5 apiece for his base Topps card in 2013 thanks to that story - even sold a Gold parallel for like $30.

Mark Whiten for the week of 5 September 1993. 10 for 29, 4HR, 14RBI, 8 runs. Went 4 for 5 on the 7th, with 4 HR and 12 RBI that day.

He had a great week, but he wasn't a "one week wonder."
Whiten hit 25 homers with 99 rbi that season.
More of a "one season wonder," since he never approached those numbers again.

I would put him and Kevin Maas in the "one year wonder" category. They were both hot buys for an extended period of time.

I thought of another great one - Bucky Jacobsen. Had a huge debut at an older age with Seattle, then fell off after about a week or so. People dug those old Bowman Chromes out fast and furious....
