Your team's best and worst surprise players?

So with the season basically over, who have been your team's best and worst surprise players (leaving injuries aside)?

For the yanks, the worst is sabathia. Maybe it's age, weight or just not his year, but he has been far from an ace.

Runner up is hughes but he wasn't supposed to be an ace.

Best surprise, I guess, would be nova who has pitched like what sabathia used to with runner up being Shawn Kelly, but he is middle relief.

This was a crappy season.

Best surprise: Yusmeiro Petit coming out of nowhere to emerge as a possible member of the 2014 rotation, going 4-0 in 6 starts with a 2.77 era and 1.128 whip.
Worst surprise: Team as a whole. Mostly Matt Cain and his first half 5.09 era.

Worst: Everyone else, except a month of Avisail Garcia.

Best: Jay Bruce quietly put up great numbers this year.

Worst: Johnny Cueto was out most of the year.

Best: Domonic Brown and Cody Asche look like they can contribute at the MLB level.

Worst: Jimmy Rollins had a horrible year offensively. I haven't heard too much uproar regarding it either which is surprising for this city.

For the Blue Jays, worst surprises have to be Josh Johnson and J.P. Arencibia. Expected a lot from Johnson as he was the initial guy the Jays wanted from Miami in the deal that morphed into a megatrade. J.P. has more than a strikeout per game and an average below .200.

Best surprises for me have to be Munenori Kawasaki and Ryan Goins. I had never heard of either until each was called up. Kawasaki everyone knows. Didn't contribute any significant offense but added some entertainment to the season. Goins has been pretty solid in his short time so far. Garnering talk of possibly becoming the everyday 2B next year.

Best Paul Goldschmidt He carried the team on his shoulders the whole year. Runner up would be Corbin.

Most disappointing Kubel

Best: Daniel Nava, Jose Iglesias (when he was on the team), John Lackey, Mike Carp
Worst: Stephen Drew

Nava has been a HUGE part of our lineup in his first full season in Boston, sporting a .297/.381/.438 line. Usually he starts out hot and fizzles out as the season goes on but he has been incredibly consistent and always puts together a good at bat. Iglesias was batting over .400 for a lot of the year here in Boston, no one expected that. He was a lot more confident at the plate, I wish they hadn't traded him away. Lackey I think we knew he was going to be better being fully healed from TJ surgury, but wow has he been one of our best pitchers this year. Has nearly 20 QS on the year and threw his best outing last time out so he is still getting better and stronger. As for Mike Carp...no one knew what his role would be and didn't think much of the addition, but he has been huge for us at the plate and always doing something to help out the team. With Napoli being a free agent after the season, I really hope Carp takes over at first full time. I doubt that will happen, but I think he has earned it...he is a perfect fit at Fenway.

Now...when my team's worst surprise player is Stephen Drew, that shows they haven't had too many weak spots in the lineup. He hasn't been terrible offensively, but I expected a lot more. Sometime he looks so lost at the plate. His power numbers are still there, but day to day, I've been disappointed. His defense has been awesome, best glove at SS [besides Iglesias] we have had in a handful of years.

Texas Rangers
Best: Adrian Beltre, Elvis Andrus
Worst: Lance Berkman, David Murphy
Surprises: Martin Perez

This team performed above my expectations most of the year with injuries to the pitching staff and played well considering the amount of unproven pitchers and position players in the lineup everyday.
Murphy regressed and should have had a breakout season with more playing time. Nelson Cruz being suspended 50 games has really hurt them down the stretch and was a huge disappointment.

I would add in that Kyle Loshe was surprisingly good, if not great (great, when compared to all the nay-saying expectations when he signed and had a tough time at the beginning of the year). I would also add Scooter into that list of rookies.

Rickie should still be listed as bad. Yeah, he's injured now, but it's not like he was anything great before he was hurt.

I think for the Yanks someone who should be considered should be Soriano. He's played out of his damn mind since they traded for him. They'd be more games back if it weren't for that pick up.
