You're at a show and see......

But then you glance at his other showcase and see a bunch of obviously suspicious patch cards.

What do you do?

Out of principle, do you walk away or just don't care?

Or maybe you don't care but are leery that the cards you have interest in are "messed with."

I would only have interest in his graded cards. And sometimes they have their "issues".....

I'd probably die of shock that not only did I see a wanted card, I found the one seller who had numerous cards I wanted. The patch cards would be a red flag though.

Walk away - I never want an asterisk on a card on my collection. If I have any doubts or suspicions, I'll find someone else to buy from.

It is all about trust in this case...I would walk away if you knowingly sell fake patches/Autographics/Forged autographs/altered equiptment to be sold as game used etc. I would not put my money in the hands of someone I don't trust in these instances.

I ask him how much he wants for the cards I'm interested in, offer him something XX% lower depending on where he's at, and negotiage from there. If he's reasonable, we work a deal for the cards I'm interested in. If he's not, I walk away empty handed.

The questionable patch cards? Whatever. I don't know if he altered them himself or if he bought them altered. Unless they have obvious patch segments that the player couldn't have worn, I can't be 100% sure they are faked. And if I really stop to think about it, I don't trust the card companies to begin with.

Last summer at the Houston Tristar show I came across a dealer with a big selection of patch cards, a couple of which I recognized from "real or fake" threads here, the consensus being they were fake for various reasons. He did have some cards I was interested in that were plain old cardboard, but he was priced a bit high. If he was more flexible on them, I guess I would have bought them. So I guess the answer is I wouldn't care, I just want to add the cards I want to my collection. It's not like we're UN peacekeepers not interfering while a mob lynches a guy or something. It's baseball cards, and buyer beware.

Happened to me when I went to White Plains. I didn't walk, I ran.

I would walk away without question....I love the dealers that sell "HOT PACKS" in their showcase, and then are selling lose packs on the other end of their table. Get a damn clue people!

I don't think it would affect my purchase as long as I was confident that the cards I am getting are genuine

First off, when the OP said "obviously suspicious" patch cards, I don't know what that means. Sounds like an oxymoron to me. If it means "obviously fake", then I just wouldn't buy any patch cards from the guy. But if he had non game used that I wanted, like some super sweet 2000's inserts or some low numbered parallels I needed, I'd have no probs trying to work out a deal with him. After all, there's no guarantee this dealer is TRYING to rip people off...he may have gotten those fake patch cards from anywhere, and maybe he actually believes (or WANTS to believe) they are real. Unless I know for a fact that he knows what he's got and he's trying to rip people off, I have no probs trying to deal for his totally legit stuff. Maybe that would encourage him to stick to the legit stuff if nobody bought his suspicious patch stuff.
