It's really not that big a' deal.

People hold professional sport players to a way higher standard than a regular person..

I've seen worse at middle schools, honestly.

That's because middle schoolers aren't the ones on TV who serve as role models for children. Whether the players like it or not, being a high level athlete in any sport requires a little common sense and maturity.

It doesn't really matter if this offends people or not, it's simply something that has no place in professional sports, or anywhere for that matter. Totally classless.

The old "seriously? what was he thinking?" phrase comes to mind on this one. Regardless if this is a slur in his hometown or not, the man is a major league baseball player and looked up to by many. This is not something that should have been done either by him or by others as a joke. I am not one to give into political correctness as I feel we are too touchy on many things in this country but this is just nuts for a major league ball player in this day and age.

I have seen a good deal of pranks in a major league dugout and clubhouse but whoever did this one (if it was indeed a prank) needs to be sat down and given a little lesson on how not to alientate a segment of the population that is paying their salary.

Well apparently that's gonna happen because it's being investigated by MLB.

I still say BFD, a thousand fans at every MLB game use such insults every day in every city in the country. I've heard alot worse from the mouths of alot of little league parents at the teams I sponsor's games.

Man Baseball has come a long way since its days of sport for thugs and hooligans. Fans Used to show up to see acts of manliness like fights, hard slides, and the game itself. Now some ponce has a spanish term for buttloving or snizz scissoring on his eye black and you all get a sprained *****?

It's a prank.. I take more offense at bryce harpers hair or his choice of eyeblack.. Plus most mericons are busy redecorating their flats to care about what a canadian latino wears. Unless he is salsa dancing. So Move along..

I don't care if it's a prank. It's tasteless. It's incredibly idiotic. Canadian laws are probably even more strict than US laws regardless harassment, so I'm sure that Yunel will learn that even if it was a prank that it was an expensive prank. It's a bad image to the game.

how is this news? Seriously? Has anyone ever heard of that saying "sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me"? I think its time to bring it back. Its obvious this was a joke and wasn't meant for anyone in particular. People have no lives if something this small and trivial bothers them. I'm going back to checking my fantasy FB teams and pretending I never even saw that article.

It's the sixth grade mentality taking over.

"they called me __________!"

If that is the worst thing that happened to you today, you should feel pretty lucky.

No apology needed sir. I'm not sure anything could be written on some eye black that could cause me to be enraged.

You're a redneck
You're a cracker
You're a fata$$
You're a honkey

I've never understood the anger that comes from being called something. I realize there are words that throughout history were used to hold people down or humiliate them, but it's just never made much sense to me. By reacting to the word, you give the word power. No reaction, renders in meaningless.

None of those insults compare to slurs directed at ethnicity, skin colour, gender or sexual orientation. Words are pretty powerful, some are so hate filled that there is no good way to use them. It doesn't matter if they are the norm in the barrio/ghetto. They are definitely not words of endearment.

I always think it's funny when people just blanketly call pro-atheltes role models for children. If your child starts acting inapprorpriately because of something a pro-athlete does then you aren't doing a very good job as a parent.

Ken Rosenthal@Ken_Rosenthal Just announced: #BlueJays suspend Escobar for three games

Good. My problem with Yunel wearing that is that he shouldn't be wearing something like that while at work. If I showed up at work with a statement that was racist or offensive in any manner, you bet your ass I'd get fired. If the rest of you all aren't offended by what it said that doesn't matter. It just takes one groundskeeper to be offended, and the Blue Jays and Escobar will get sued for harassment.

Like it or not, no matter what a parent does, athletes can and will be role models for children because of their status on the field, on sportscards, on television, whatever. My parents raised me just fine and I have always called my parents the real heroes of my life but that didnt stop me from holding a few baseball players I observed on television, playing a game I loved in very high regard. To say a parent isnt doing a good job if a child holds an athlete in such high regard is narrow minded. It is going to happen regardless of the family situation.

You're a redneck (racial/socio-economic slur)
You're a cracker (racial)
You're a fata$$
You're a honkey (racial)

Just saying.
