Zambrano returned from his suspension tonight and held the Reds hitless for the first 4 innings. He gave up 2 hits and no runs while pitching 6 2/3 innings. The Cubs gave up a run in the 8th and nearly blew the lead, but Marmol got Bruce to strike out. The Cubs almost also gave up the game in the 9th, as the Cubs could not throw out a runner for the last out after he struck out because of a wild pitch. Zambrano hit his 2nd home run of the season as the Cubs won 2-1. He becomes only the 4th Cubs pitcher in the past 50 years to win 100 games as a Cub. In honor of Z's 100th win, show off your Zambranos! I will post my favorite:

Not worth much, but a nice looking card. Very coincidental as I was looking through an old box of "commons" tonight and ran across this:

Now the question. Will he pitch til the age of 40?

During the last 6 full seasons he has averaged 15 wins a season. He just turned 28. If he pitches to the age of 40 and continues to put up a 15 win season ...on average.... with the games he won in 2001 and 2002 when he wasnt a full time starter.... he would have 287 wins.

Of course he has to stay healthy. And with the money pitchers get now a days.... will he want to pitch til he is 40?

He also hit a homerun. Best hitting pitcher in the game.

I don't know if I believe him or not, but this quote really surprised me from Big Z--

"Three hundred? Me?" Zambrano said. "No, I'll be out of here in five years."

How does he know?

"After this contract, I'm done," said Zambrano, who is signed through 2012 with a vesting option for 2013. "I'm serious. I don't want to play. I want to help this team, I want to do everything possible to win with this team, but after five years or four years, or whatever I have left on my contract, I just don't want to play.

"I want to stay home and see my daughters grow up and hang out with my family more," he said. "Do you know how many Mother's Days I spend with my mother? Do you know how many things I've lost in my life?

"It's good to be here, it's good to play baseball -- don't get me wrong," Zambrano said. "But five years, four years, whatever I have left in my contract, I will retire. That's it."

I'll take Zambrano over Owings any day of the week.

Well if it helps Z's case, he homered off of Owings today. That is the first I have heard that quote. I wouldn't be happy about that but with players being paid so much these days, it is understandable.

Yeah definitely. The quote was from the MLB.com article about the game in case you were interested in reading more.

Well, that's because he is a much better pitcher right now. But, I have to agree with J.O., strictly for hitting, Owings > Zambrano.
