Some interesting points regarding his cards and autos.
In '88, for the first time ever, Mickey, Willie and Duke were signing at the same show.
Mickey was surprised to learn that his auto fee was more than the others at a whopping $12 compared to Willie's $10 and Duke's $8
He also stated that for several years after he retired, "Mickey Mantle kind of died" and it wasn't until his introduction and the rise of the hobby that he became popular again.
Mantle also said that he carries and gives away sports impressions cards autographed by him when he gets approached in public.
He was amazed when he found out that his '52 topps sold for $9k at an auction.
He said he never posed for baseball cards, only for pictures which eventually made it onto cards.
He never collected cards despite being sent them from topps and bowman and would just give them to his sons.
"They'd take the gum, chew it and throw the cards away" Mantle said.
He said that he wouldn't be surprised if someone broke Maris' record and cited McGwire and Canseco because they are so big playing in small parks.
"I feel like a little leaguer when talking to them" he said.
He blamed team owners for handing out ten year contracts to players and said had this money been around when he played, he would have sat out more often when in pain.
Lastly, he was asked who was the toughest pitcher he faced and he replied Dick Radtz because Mantle struck out 44 times in 66 at bats against him.
