First off, it should be noted that BA won't be including SS/Rookie Ball players on today's Hot Sheet, as their season is only a week old, and each year they wait two weeks before doing so.

I found it tough to pick a clear # 1 this week, as three players in particular each made strong cases, but Brett Lawrie's week stood out to me a bit more than the other two. I'm thinking he'll take the top honors this time.

Also:

Dom Brown
Mike Moustakas (these were the other two)

Other names I expect to make their Top 13 or Team Photo are:

J.P. Arencibia
Brett Jackson
Austin Romine
John Lamb
Madison Bumgarner
Jeremy Hellickson
Matt Moore
Dellin Detances
Wade Miley

Man Among Boys - Carlos Torres
Helium Watch - Joe Gardner & Brandon Laird

Now, before you guys shake your heads in disbelief I put Laird in that category, keep in mind that each day, BA puts out a daily BAPR report. NOT ONCE THIS WEEK DID HE EVEN APPEAR ON IT. That tells me that they most likely consider him to be a fringe prospect at best. I disagree with this assessment, but this thread is merely to predict what their list will look like.

There weren't a whole lot of names to choose from this week, due to AA/High-A/Low-A having their All-Star games, which cut precious AB's from consideration for the Hot Sheet.

Still, I'm sure I missed a few names, so let's hear 'em.

Rizzotti.

They don't give the awards to "old Men in Phillies uniforms"

But really, he had an amazing week and I am going to see him Monday in New Hampshire.

The last game of his I went to I got a cracked bat of his.

Good numbers, but as I said, SS/Rookie Ball guys won't make this week's Hot Sheet.

... those stats were accumulated in SS ball. Therefore, he won't be included.

Hmm, I guess I don't see the criteria anywhere.

I see it called the Baseball America Hot Sheet.

I don't see it called the Baseball America Top Hot Prospect Sheet, or the Baseball America Next Babe Ruth Hot Sheet, nor do I see it listed as the Baseball America Future Hall of Famer Hot Sheet.

So, what is it?

OK then.

So JASON KIPNIS is a top prospect?

It's BA's philosophy. They take potential into account just as much as they do stats.

He's blocked off from Philly by Howard, thus limiting his potential.

he deserves whatever accolades anyone is willing to give him

However he doesn't fit what this hot sheet is all about.

Look past the title to the philosophy and history please.

Ah, that's right. And when Howard's "potential was limited" by Jim Thome, yet pounding out 30+ HRs in Reading and Scranton Wilkes-Barre, he would never have qualfiied either.

So what you're saying is that if Rizzotti played for another team in the NL that had 1B woes, or an AL team where he could DH, he'd be on the list?
