Zack Wheeler is expected to make one more start with Triple-A Las Vegas before being promoted for the Mets' next homestand against the Cubs.

The Mets want to avoid Super Two status with Wheeler and will put him in optimum position to succeed for his debut in a matchup with the struggling Cubs. Wheeler has a 3.86 ERA over 11 starts at the Triple-A level. The 22-year-old has No. 2 starter potential and is worth stashing in deeper mixed leagues.

Hopefully he see's some time in NY before the year is over.....

Eastern League Player of the week

Cesar Puello, Binghamton
(.500/.538/1.208, 6 G, 12-for-24, 7 R, 2 2B, 5 HR, 13 RBI, 7 R, 2 BB, 3 K, 2 SB)
If Puello is concerned about being named in an ESPN Outside the Lines report onMLB's investigation of the Biogenesis clinic in Florida, it hasn't shown on the field. The Mets prospect strung together six consecutive multi-hit games before going 0-for-4 on Sunday, crushing six long balls during the stretch. The offensive surge has pushed the 22-year-old outfielder into the Eastern League lead with a .606 slugging percentage; he ranks second in home runs (13), third in batting (.326) and seventh in on-base percentage (.401).

Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the week

Carlos Torres, Las Vegas
(2-0, 0.50 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 2 CG, 1 SHO, 18 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 2 BB, 15 K)
In a 10-year career spanning 221 Minor League appearances and 44 more in the Majors, Torres had notched exactly two complete games: both were rain-shortened affairs while pitching for Triple-A Charlotte in 2009. He matched that output this week, tossing a pair of nine-inning gems at Fresno on Monday and Tacoma on Sunday. The 30-year-old right-hander pitched a three-hit shutout against the Grizzlies, fanning a season-high 11 batters without issuing a walk, then gave up one run on two hits and two walks against the Rainiers. The veteran has earned the win in each of his last five starts and has allowed three earned runs over his last 31 2/3 frames.

Rafael Montero has been promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas, according to Jay Horwitz on Twitter.

22-year-old Montero is 7-3 with a 2.43 ERA and 0.915 WHIP with Double-A Binghamton. He’s struck out 72 batters and walked just 10 in his 66 2/3 innings of work with the B-Mets.
He made a spot start at Triple-A earlier this year, taking the loss despite allowing just one earned run over 6 2/3 innings.
Montero will start on Sunday for Las Vegas.

Perhaps the Mets can make a habit of back to back Harvey & Wheeler wins going forward.....

That would be nice...
And in other news, we acquired Eric Young Jr from the Rockies for Colin McHugh and designated Colin Cowgill for assignment

Both of these guys are a year away at this point....2014 might not be too bad

BINGHAMTON, NY - Noah Syndergaard and Rafael Montero, both members of the 2013 Binghamton Mets, have been selected to represent the New York Mets at the 2013 All-Star Futures Game to be played at Citi Field on Sunday, July 14.
Syndergaard, 20, made his Double-A with the B-Mets on Sunday after beginning the season with the St. Lucie Mets (High-A) in the Florida State League. He struck out seven Erie SeaWolves over six innings and collected the victory. The 6'6" right-hander was acquired in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays in December 2012. The Mansfield, Texas native will pitch for the US Team.
Montero, 22, went 7-3 with a 2.43 ERA in eleven starts with the B-Mets before getting promoted to the Las Vegas 51's (AAA) earlier this month. In just under 67 innings pitched, the righty struck out 72 batters and issued just 10 walks. He ended his time in the Eastern League by posting 23-2/3 consecutive scoreless innings. The native of Higuerito, Dominican Republic will pitch for the World Team.
The B-Mets (47-28) will complete their three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs tonight at Hadlock Field. The clubs will resume their suspended game from Tuesday night in the top of the third inning with no score. Their regularly-scheduled game will follow and last seven innings. First pitch for the resumption is set for 5:00 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame show beginning at 4:45 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

I wonder when the Mets will call up Allan Dykstra. With his numbers he deserves a shot.

The worst kept secret .....

[h=1]Matt Harvey to start All-Star Game[/h]July 15th, 2013 1:36 pmBruce Bochy officially announced on Monday afternoon that Matt Harvey will be the National League starting pitcher for Tuesday’s All-Star Game at Citi Field.
“It’s definitely a huge honor and something I’m very excited about,” Harvey said.
Harvey will be the third pitcher in franchise history to start the All-Star game as a Met, in addition to Tom Seaver (1970) and Doc Gooden (1986, 1988).
“What a tremendous year he’s had,” Bochy said. “It really wouldn’t have mattered what city we were playing in with the year he had.”
