Need help please. I bought this 2001 Fleer Triple Crown Blue on ebay recently. The seller said it has a print run of 47. I was very disappointed to find out (after leaving good feedback) that it doesn't have a serial number. I messaged the seller, told him how unhappy I was, and that this card went out the back door. He said:

"I am very sorry for any confusion about the card. I can 100% promise you that this was not a card back-doored after bankruptcy. I actaully got the card out of a box of 2001 Triple Crown back in 2001 when I got back into collecting. I just happened to be digging through some old boxes and found this one mixed in and decided to sell it. All the blue parallels were very short-printed."

I know I want to return it... I just want to know how right I am in my disgust.

^^^Idk, how much did it set you back? I'm assuming a couple bucks, I usually just move on down the road in this instance. Anything that is "material" is when I try and make it right... this is just my opinion but looks like you ran across a nice seller because most would tell you to get lost lol

That Ortiz looks like the purple version to me. Those were really hard to find and were NOT serial numbered.

Here's my blue (xx/22) and purple for reference:

A-ha! You guys are right! I knew I came to the right place  I just compared it to my Blue Rusty Greer and it is definitely a purple:

Randomly inserted into retail packs, this 100-card set is a complete parallel of the first 100 cards in the 2001 Fleer Triple Crown base set. Please note that these cards have purple-foil lettering on the card fronts, and were only available in retail packs at the rate of approximately one per box.

Of course now my problem is realizing that I am missing the purple for Rusty Greer, and nobody has it. Thanks a lot :p

So for player collectors you'll need five different from 2001 Triple Crown: base, purple (retail), blue (HR), green (RBI), and red (avg).

In 2002 Triple Crown you'll only need four as there was no retail only parallel, but they confused us by changing the colors and the name of the parallels. In 2002 it was the batting avg parallel (now green), the RBI parallel (now blue), and the HR parallel (now red).

^wow, I never paid much attention to this set. They look pretty neat! just looked it up and "fortunately" Pedro Martinez has no parallels in either 2001 or 2002, but Piazza does. Looks like in 2001 only cards #1-100 have ANY of the color variations (not just retail)

cool cards nonetheless!

Here's that 2000 Finest Chipper Jones GEMS Gold Refractor. Beckett states that odds on the GEMS Gold Refractors as being 1:2880 hobby/retail and 1:1200 HTA packs. Those are some tough odds! That's why I was sick over missing out the Bonds. I noticed that when I bought the Chipper on ebay from Burbank that they had just upped the price on their Beckett Marketplace store from $20 to $38. Was there an uptick recently in Beckett? Seems like stuff has been going down, not up.

The more of those Pacific Tinsels I see, the more I'm reminded that I've yet to pick up a single one of the Tinsels I need. None. I've had no trouble finding at least one or two of all the other parallels, but the Tinsels elude me. I hate the fact they made so many parallels but I love the fact that they exist, and I wish companies still did that.

Who you looking for?

Yeah, for some reason someone on COMC has a ton of Woodgrain Silver, but there is only one Tinsel up right now. Both cards have a stated print run of 331. Looks like it's more equal on other sites like Beckett Marketplace, so I'm not suggesting there's a shortage of Tinsel. But with a print run of only 331 plus I bet plenty of people are hesitant to sell theirs because they aren't sure how to describe which versions they have might make them hard to come by. I have to look at an example to tell for most versions.

I just noticed I was missing two parallels from my want list, not counting the Proofs (I'm not going to find any of those #'ed to 10, and if I do, probably can't afford them. My progress was bad, and now it's even worse:

Tinsels are scarce because unlike most the other parallels, they were a Hobby-Only insert (not found in retail packs).
