My Roy Face Player Collection

I started a Roy Face player collection last month when I decided to add more Pirates Vintage cards to my collection. Face was my grandfather's favorite Pirate and he would always tell me how great Roy was and I guess that has stuck with me through the years. so I figured why not start a player collection of him.

according to Beckett he has 122 cards featuring him in a Pirates uniform. I have 29 of 122 or 24%.

I liked Roy as a kid and eventually learned to throw a fork ball. Mine comes out with no spin like a knuckleball, so the Face & Wilhelm card is one of my favorites.

I used to work for Elroy at Mayview state Hospital back in the 80s,He was my foreman in the carpenter shop,,He used to have to sign off on all the work orders we handed in,and although it occurred to me,to break into the file cabinet and take all those signatures,I never did it!I did throw catch with him at lunch break once though!!.....Whats really a shame is that he had to work,after his baseball career was over,had he been playing today,he would be worth millions,a point that he used to make to us quite often!!

that's a very cool story. I grew up about 10 minutes from Mayview and never knew he worked there. it is a shame that older players had to work after their MLB careers were over.

Collection looks nice. Love the old Pirates logo. I first started collecting because of the gum and logos and later learned about the players.
