Actually I tend to bid .90 or .99 on cards I own at least one copy of, I don't disagree with the small amount over the dollar but please don't assume that every bid urn the rounded dollar is a shill.

That is a case of shill bidding or the bidder not really wanting to win the item...

Please let me be clear here. I'm going to mark this post as HERESAY

I've never heard of shilling from this seller, which may very well be true, BUT I was told by a very reliable and credible source about 2-3 years ago that this seller had teams of people going around different retail stores in Ohio (I'm not aware of any other states) packsearching and selling the cards back to him. I've never mentioned this before, but I have no reason to believe it's not true. I know that most people find this practice disgusting but there are some, unfortunately, that think it's ok.

However I must say that I have no actual proof, so please take this post accordingly. It's just that when I received this information it was dictated to me in a way that was very casual and out of the blue and with what I was told I then had no reason to dismiss it

This is why I won't bid on any of his auctions as I don't want to line the pockets of someone who's involved in these kinds of practices.

Is it still going on? I don't know, but I just felt the need to post this in light of the topic and tone being discussed.

I just believe that if someone is involved in 1 apparent unethical or sleezy practice that they are just as likely to be involved in others.

Randy, I agree totally, I will not bid anymore either. I do know they have a "TEAM" as described above, and I do know a very reputable dealer in Chris Gala (Gala Sports) basically disbanded from this group because of certain practices and shady dealings. If BigBoyd is part of this group, then I would believe it, but then again, each has their own choice if they should deal with this ebayer. I know I won't.

Because his intention is to mislead unknowledgeable collectors by making a card appear much more valuable than it is, and points out that he's obviously not truthful

He doesn't force the buyers to type in the numbers in the snipe or bidding box. If the buyer is going to pay $1000 b/c someone said it was worth $1200, that's on the buyer, not the seller. Don't most of the sheep in the hobby follow the word of Beckett and their BV? If Beckett says a card is worth $100, the sheep won't pay more than $20. If Beckett raises the BV to $200, then the sheep are willing to shell out $40.

Point is, a card is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, regardless of what anyone says the value is.

I buy from him a lot. Never had any problems. He doesnt ship with delivery confirmation a lot so I usually hit him with several chargebacks. I figure it evens everything out with him shilling.

Please tell me you are joking.

Are Big Boyd and Wolverine24 one and the same? I had heard that Wolverine got booted from eBay for shilling also, and Big Boyd "acquired" Wolverine's inventory. I can't remember the specifics, exactly.
vintagesnowmobles was wolverine

1) Ebay should kick him out.
2) I had always thought he was a shiller, especially with the last card I won, and know I probably paid 20% more than I should have or 20% higher than it would go for if no shilling took place by this seller.
3) If you see bidders bid 29.99 or 9.99, etc it is a pretty blatant indicator that someone, a friend, or acquaintence is bidding up their auctions for them, because generally people bid 30.09 or 10.09, etc.

Curiosity should be gone :)

.........................Dude seriously, when I bid all my bids and I do mean ALL my bids end with a xx.99!! and I do not disagree with everyone's assessments of this tool buying and selling habits..but to generalize on how folks bid and to assume, according to you that just because anyone bids a certain way, they must be a friend and therefore shilling another's auction is pretty damn insulting and makes you sound like an ass..and yes I am taking this personal..so next time dont generalize and just assume your correct in your satements..

No need to get defensive everyone - I think his choice of words was maybe not the best is all. I believe that he was trying to say that combined with all of the other evidence this "can" be another indicator of shilling. It does make sense. this is not "always" the case, but if you were shilling, it would make sense that you would make bids just uunder the whole dollar. Although not "all" bidders bid this way, "most" people will bid slightly over the whole dollar of they are trying to win an auction. I'm sure he didn't mean to generalize.

Yea agentjak I think you might be getting a little a head of yourself here. First off, we are not saying that people who bid just under the whole dollar amount shill but we are saying this is one sign which is commonly used by people who do shill but not ALL. Secondly, back to my original post, if you were to bid on 1300+ auctions in the last 30 days and 97% of your bids were with one seller, that points to someone who is shilling... do you agree? Regardless of all of this, I think bidding just above the whole dollar amount would give you a much better chance of winning an auction but this is just my opinion!

I've purchased multiple cards from him over the years. I set a snipe and if I win the card so be it. I've never investigated the bidding history because I won the cards for a price I was willing to pay so there were no red flags. I can say that every card I have won was packaged properly, delivered quickly, and I was happy with the product.
