Ryan, I am in agreement with you on this one, I dont like the cards at all. They look cheap, and not appealing.

Holy Crap, that cracked me up! What is going on in that picture? It looks like a person who has a Rickey RC for a head.

The awesome thing about MLB's umbrella....

LOGOS!!!

I can buy "LOGOS" at Wal-Mart, but it's tough finding authentic, game-used memorabilia from sports legends there. I can even buy sticker autographed cards in Prime Cuts. LOL

But I can't buy a single sticker autograph in Sportkings, and the memorabilia is, well...authentic and "game-used".

I don't collect MLB logos. I collect on-card autographs and authentic, game-used memorabilia cards. Stuff you can't readily find in Wal-Mart or Prime Cuts, etc.

I get all that mwheeler, and I understand you have a lot invested in Dr Price's product. I don't think it's necessary for you to live life as a walking talking commercial, but to each his own I guess.

Would you be shocked to learn that the authenticity of jersey pieces in Rickey Henderson baseball cards is a non-issue? It doesn't matter. If it was revealed that they were all fake, they would retain the same value. I know this because a Rickey card with a jersey that is #/250 sells for half of what a Rickey card without a jersey #/50 does. I know this because people will pay more for a (clearly advertised) manafactured (fake) piece of Rickey "memorabilia" #/99 than they will for a real jersey card that's #/250. People aren't buying the jersey. They are buying the card.

Think of cars. Dr. Price is selling some ugly cars. When I show up at the dealership to get a car, I don't know what I want, but I know one thing I don't want... an ugly car. You can tell me how great the milage is, how dependable the car, how it has new this and new that, all the bells and whistles... I'm not going to buy an ugly car. Of course, "ugly" as I said before, is a matter of personal taste. I understand some people will enjoy the look of these cards. Some people even like ugly cars, or we would never see the Scion xB on the road.

While I may be in the minority, I do like most of the new Sportkings releases. I'm a sucker for retro/art-themed sets, so I enjoy the base cards and the minis. While I do appreciate the on-card autos, I can do without the base game-used, as well as all of the autographed cards. They do look pretty generic, and the lack of logos really stands out. I don't mind that there aren't logos, its just that the blank blue and green hats remind me of an adult softball league. But, that being said, I do like all of the dual, triple, and quad game-used. The designs on some of these are pretty good, and it's nice to be able to pick something up with a few different players on it. Also, because the images are smaller, the lack of logos does not seem to distract as much from the design. Plus, how often can you add a Rickey card to the collection that also features Mario Lemieux? Overall, they could have done better, but they are definitely headed in the right direction!

Anyone by chance have an extra 2000 Topps 20th Century Best Sequential SB #/1334 CB5 missing the serial number? For some reason, I keep buying the Runs version (I just picked up my 4th, I believe). Whenever one comes up, I can never remember which one I have. If there's any extra lying around, I have a Runs version I can trade, lol!

I love hearing comments like this. It reminds me of all the "good stuff" at antique shows and auctions. Yes, even car auctions. Where the most expensive and sought after items are the ones people used to think was ugly. You know, the less popular items in their day.

People might pay more for cards they like today, but in my opinion, people will pay more for cards tomorrow that people don't like today. That is, if history continues to repeat itself, and of course, those cards are limited in number. Either way, I reckon it's a good thing I don't collect for investment purposes. Then I don't have to worry about the prices going up or down.

The less people like cards like this, the easier it is for us that like them to collect them.

Went to a card show today in Cedar Rapids. Not very many tables, but I did pick up 2 cards. I'll take a picture tomorrow maybe. Grabbed the Piedmont relic (as seen in Brad's sig) for $10 and another relic card for the same price. There are 2 Piedmont's on eBay right now and they are listed for $40 and $45. Not sure why so high? I did find out they are opening a card shop in the mall (where the show was). I'll be getting some supplies from them in the future. Looking for some 9 card screwdowns for my Star sets.

On another note, I got approved for a house! Bad news is it's not the one we're in, so we have to move :( Good news is it's about 10 minutes from work and is actually more square footage. Rickey will be displayed prominantly in my Man Cave. Was planning the same thing here, but was waiting to get approved before I started covering the walls with posters and such.

Congrats on the house, and we will definitely need to see some pics of the "man cave" when you get it done!

Brad, not sure if my PMs are going thru or not. I tried to send 3 times and none of them are showing in my sent items. Let me know if you got them or not.

Ha! Was at the same "show" at the mall yesterday. Kind of funny, Mrs. HawkeyeFan wanted me to pack up the kids and go shopping for Mother's Day. Imagine the horror when we get to the mall and there's tables of baseball cards everywhere! You live in Cedar Rapids?

Anyway, not a Rickey collector, but I've got a couple I thought I'd share anyway. I've got about 100 or so different Rickey's. Fleer glossys, and a bunch from those 44 card Fleer sets from the 80s if anyone is interested in those.

1989 Score Nat West Yankees. Always thought this was odd because he isn't included in the set but is on the team card

Iowa City but soon to be North Liberty. How much for the cards? Did hear they are opening a shop at the mall. Wish there would have been more rhan 10 tables there.

Yeah, not a lot to see there really (was looking for Griffeys). A lot of overpriced stuff. I'm 99.9% sure there's already a shop in that mall called Grandslam Collectables (unless it closed in the last couple months) but it's really hard to find as its in the "basement" below the lower level and by the Military Recruiting offices. Took me forever to figure out how to get down there the first time. There's a pretty good sized shop in Westdale mall on the west side of Cedar Rapids too, I think they're called Locker Room Legends.

As for the Rickey's, which do you need?
