This was one of the best plays I've ever seen in baseball. Not because it was a difficult thing to do, but simply because it sends a message from Harper to the entire baseball world that this is how the game is supposed to be played...if you start playing it like I do, then maybe you'll turn singles into doubles too. And if you don't watch out, I'm going to make you look like a complete fool by purely out-hustling you.

I hope he keeps that stuff up, it's great for the game.

Totally agree. While I'm a Phillies fan, I can't help but root for Harper because of his hustle and drive. It's sadly something that we don't see enough of these days.

Did you see Harper stretch this play into a double? He hit a soft liner barely over the Philly shortstop. Sorry for the crummy video. This was the only video I could find of that hit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMk9WkwC_pQ

I had no idea if he could live up to the hype, but he seems to be. The Hamels situation did it for me. Took a plunking, then hustled his way around the bases to score on a steal of home, then didn't tweet about it between innings. I'm glad he got rid of the warpaint eyeblack, though.

saw him play last night in Atlanta.. He crushed a line drive home run off Johnny Venters (And I called the shot!) he also uncorked an bomb of a throw.. he is the real deal.. just a bit on the cocky side.. might need a few plunks to bring him down to earth..

I don't mind cocky when a player has hustle because they're typically the kind of individual who is their own worst critic, and, when they fail to perform, they'll beat themselves up harder than anyone else can.

The sad thing is his cards were selling higher after his first 13 games than his second 13 games...I would say Harper is definitely living up the hype right now....He definitely struggled quite a bit in AA/AAA/his first 13 games in MLB, but he's been extremely impressive these past 13 games...Could Harper win ROY? If he continues playing this way, I don't see it out of the question

The kid can play. In watching the College Playoffs on ESPN over this Holiday weekend ... which college senior have you seen that could come out and do what Harper is doing ? They would be older coming out of college too. I have not seen one player I would take over him after what he has done since the call-up.

Kipnis was a rookie last season and I'm not sure if Cespedes and Darvish are eligible. Didn't they change the ROY eligibility rules to exclude players who played in other professional leagues?

Middlebrooks (since your list is NL & AL)

I know Kipnis played last year but did he have enough AB's to become eligible for a MLB player.
