You can never retire completely. It's hard to collect Gwynn. I just put in "saved searches" on Ebay for all the players I collect. Gwynn always has hundreds of new stuff every few hours while the other players have a few. I don't even know where to start lol

I couldn't imagine. I've got enough to chew on with Belle and he has like ~2,500 cards lol

Speaking of Gwynn...

My saved searches shows a Gwynn Allegiance Ref /100 getting posted for a $19 BIN. I think that sounds pretty fair so I check it out. It's Burbank. That seems awfully low for them. So I go to their store on Beckett and see they've got it listed for $60! I start to wonder if it's an error, but then I see they did something similar with the Vladi. Is this one of the issues that Beckett recently dropped the down arrow on?

How can I tell what super sweet 90's/early 00's issues were recently dropped? If any of you have any examples will you please post? I might suddenly be in the market. And yeah, I picked up that Gwynn.

Must not be too good of a deal - passed all the way through last month with no takers. Still, I'm surprised their Beckett store doesn't have the same pricing as their ebay prices - by a lot on a few of these cards that must have had somewhat recent price changes.

Beckett took Gwynn out of the listings recently; him and Nomar are now Unlisted Stars. BV on that Gwynn is $25 now, last month that whole set took a tumble.

Makes sense as far as the players. Nomar has deserved it for probably a decade while the market on Gwynn generally appears soft to me despite him making the HOF.

Yeah, Beckett recently severely dropped the prices on this entire set. I believe the Larkin dropped from $50 to $15 and the Nomar dropped from like $100 to $25 or something like that. Beckett also inexplicably slashed the book values on some of the 90's essential credentials sets (I know 1999 took a huge tumble at least). That one made no sense to me - you can never find those cards under high book value.

Edit: To clarify - It wasn't for any particular player(s). They dropped teh prices on the entire sets.

Yeah, the Essential Credentials one baffled me. Those seem to be quite popular on the market and sometimes go for more than book! Heck, I sold an Al Martin for $15 LOL

Bummer than they didn't finally slash all Nomar cards. That has been a long time coming.

No kidding. There are a lot of his cards I'd like to own, but not at the current bloated price point.

Not sure about all the price drops but burbank has had a purple crusades Bagwell and have dropped the price twice. It's now like $50 some odd dollars. I couldn't believe it. Too bad I don't need the damn thing.

Still enjoying picking up these Passing Thru Time Press Proofs. I have a handful I'll be showing off when I get my COMC.

This is the 2003 Blue /50

The vast majority of the cards they slashed can be found well below even the new cheaper BV, so it makes sense in some way. But for them to drop prices on the legit scarce/rare stuff is more proof that they don't see the hobby the way collectors do. When you have people paying $40 for a Black Gold unredeemed Winner card, and they won't acknowledge that with a BV higher than 30¢, there's a problem.

I'm kind of glad that Nomar cards are dropping, it does make it easier to pick up some formerly-tough cards. But it is a double-edged sword; many of my old Nomar steals aren't such a steal anymore, and it makes it harder to get anything in return for dupes I've picked up and need to move. Also, this might make it harder to get some of his higher-end 90's stuff; if a seller bought high at his peak, he may just keep the card instead of taking a hit and moving on (the same kind of stubborn pride that makes people try and sell faded stars and worthless prospects for at-peak prices).
