Why would a team care about paying that contract? That is very affordable, especially if he returns to form. The Marlins got FLEECED, that is the bottom line. I expect the cubs to get more for Garza or Dempster than this.

While Hanley may be a cancer...it's worth a shot for what they gave up. I can't believe there wasn't a better offer out there than this. Dodgers got Choate too, who has been solid this season. Hanley's value has TANKED.

I had to double check to make sure I was reading the correct thread. Thought maybe Manny Ramirez had come back to LA! Maybe we can convert Ramirez to a left field - Hanleywood, anyone?
Anyway, as as Dodger fan I like the move. "We" don't give up much (I have been sour on Eovaldi for quite some time), and potentially upgrade the lineup a LOT. Dee Gordon's got a really weak bat, and Juan Uribe... I can't think of a single nice thing to say about him as a player. The fracking Giants let us get fleeced again on that one (read: Jason Schmidt). Hanley could really spark things.

Wonder if this deal helps or hurts Chase Headley's trade value? On one hand the price for Hanley was very low. On the other hand the Dodgers just got better which may make other wild card teams (Dbacks/Pirates) more open to making a trade to get better.

If I remember correctly, a lot of terms people are using for Hanley are pretty similar to what was said about Kemp before his break-out season. Sometimes a change of scenery or a kick in the butt is all that is needed.
As for team dumping young players, I think that this is the natural result of the huge contract that's teams have been signing heir young guys for huge contracts prefree agency. There's a value in retaining an option not to sign the player, and the market has not really recognized that over the last few years (or more likely teams figured players demanded it and felt it was worth foregoing)

Hanley and Eovaldi? I am trying to think of another but this might be the first one.
As a Marlins fan, I hate this trade. It's unbelievable that Hanley's stock dropped this much. When I saw that he was traded to the Dodgers I thought they could get AT LEAST Zach Lee.
How could the Marlins front office get a better prospect for Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante than Hanley Ramirez. It is just baffling to me.

I don't get all the hate for Eovaldi. I saw him pitch in the game against Milwaukee, and he looked pretty good to me. He's only a year older than Turner, and has pitched better than him at the big league level - and just as good at the minor league level. I won't argue that Turner isn't a better prospect as I'll defer to others who know more than me, but the only reason Eovaldi dropped in the draft is because of his surgery (which obviously come back to bite them). I also understand the frustration at what seems like an odd decision on the Marlins report. But to act like this is a terrible return in getting rid of an out-of-position sometimes-clubhouse-cancer is surprising to me.

They are also the same terms that people used everytime Milton Bradley got shipped around to every team so I'm not holding my breathe on his attitude getting adjusted

Manny plays the infield as well as Hanley does. The MarLols couldn't have sold Hanley at a lower price. I think that the risk outweighs the benefits. I'm really glad that they Jays didn't jump in.

I'm not sure why people are even qualifying the trade in regards to "if he returns to form". Even if he continues to bat .246 the rest of the season, that is still an upgrade at third compared to Uribe's .190 BA. Most GM's would jump at the chance to upgrade any spot by 56 points in BA and improved power stats as a bonus. I'm not a HanRam expert but I have to believe he's a defensive upgrade over Uribe as well. Since he can play SS or 3rd, his defensive flexability is valuable as well. Personally... as a Dodgers fan... I love the trade

I like the trade for now. But as with almost anything like this. On the surface it is great for the Dodgers. But he has to perform. And if he doesn't well then it was a bad trade. But if he does....it was a great trade. We all just have to wait and see...speculation does no good in the big scheme...it just provides conversation for both sides, which is what this message board can be used for.

Not really. There is a huge difference between a player with Bradley's track record, and a player like Hanley who has developed a reputation but there's little hard information to back it. Time might change that, but to this point it's a ridiculous comparison.
The hate is from those that have, or used to have, 2003 Bowman Chrome Hanleys
