If Thome can get in, so can Dunn

Yeah but Andruw doesn't play every day. I don't see Adam Dunn becoming a role player any time soon. He's going to play every day.
OBP=.337
OBS=.666
= still sucks.
Wayne Gross had a SLUG % of .3949 and ranked 999th all time, so where does Smith's Slug of .337 rank him all time? Yea he was hard to strike out but his stats of hitting SUCKED!

After signing a $36M, 2-yr contract at age 32, people didn't think Jones was going to be a role player either![]()

Dunn has two major flaws, fielding and Ks.......and you compare his Hall chances with Ozzie. Dunn career BA .242.....Ozzie .262, but hey Dunn has more HR and higher Slug.
The Ozzie Smith in the Hall comparisons are tired and laughable.
You do realize you are talking about one of the greatest fielding SS ever, right?
OK, just checking.
It's laughable to me that when it comes to talking about players like Dunn making the HOF - the "one trick pony" card is played...but when Ozzie is defended, that card is never used. It's "he was a star and the greatest defender at SS of all time" - well....in terms of baseball statistics....that's a one trick pony b/c his offense was pitiful.
Edit to add: Ok the guy stole some bases too....
How is nearly 2500 hits in 19 seasons one trick?

I think it will be MUCH closer that some give credit. Why do "compilers" in other sports get so much credit ala Art Monk for example. Did anyone think he was ever a top 3 receiver? How about Emmit Smith? Does anyone talk about the fact that he was NOT good at catching the ball out of the backfield? OR that this team around him made his numbers MUCH better than they should be? Walter Payton would have averaged 150 yards a game behind that line. How about a guy like Blake Griffin who can't do a damn thing other than dunk, yet he is looked at as a superstar. But in baseball, a one dimensional player is very frowned upon.
I am not saying he will get in, but a guy with 550-600 homeruns with no PED ties will get a TON of consideration.
If 2500 hits is acceptable, how is 600 HR not?

Yeah I'm coming across as a Dunn homer here but I'm really not. It wouldn't bother me either way if he makes the HOF or not. It's just laughable to me that people dismiss "600 HR" b/c he struck out a lot and sucks at fielding.
So you're using Ozzie Smith's offensive numbers to take away from him. You do realize that there was a time and place in baseball where essentially, any offense from a SS was pretty much a bonus? He wasn't expected to be a big time hitter, he was there for defense. Prior to Ripken, and a little later ARod/Jeter/Nomar/Tejada in the mid to late 90s, it was never really considered an offense producing position, minus an exception here and there.
Yet we're comparing him to a DH and whatever OF position he played, ones in which offense and big numbers are expected? OK......
600 is 600 and if it is the water mark then he should be in.
What about Papi?
