Congrats Jay, heck of a find. I've heard there is a Thomas, but I've yet to see it.

Thanks Ross. I go pretty hard after the super rare A's stuff and get pretty exited when I can add something like this. I had heard of them before; I had seen a picture of the Clemens, and I think maybe (??) Brad aka gracecollector has one? Or references them on his site, but maybe I am confused and will have to check out a couple players sites.

Nope, only have a gold and silver promo, but did know about the existence of these. Can't verify it as a 1/1 like the seller states, but may be the case. Someone here had another, maybe of Andruw Jones?

I also found a picture of the Maddux that was on eBay in May. I didnt get to see any auction results though, and WorthPoint doesn't have any listings saved.

Got the Bronze in the mail yesterday, and ended up getting the other two scanned. Here they are all together:

I've seen some crazy purchases on this board, but I think this McGwire purchase takes the cake. I love that he wants 3K for Mark Grace. The man has balls. I'll take 1/1 bat barrels for $250 over a possible 1/1 any day.

I stand corrected. Canseco selling for 1K is even crazier.

Funny that the only other one the seller has for sale is Grace. I think he thinks I'll pony up. No way in hell. I best offered him $50 and he countered with $2,999.99 (guess I insulted him). I think he at least should put "Mark Grace" in the item title, or at least subhead, if he's going to find a buyer at that price.

And not to alarm the buyers of the Canseco and McGwire, but the very advanced David Justice collector has one Bronze in his collection and says he has seen a second. I haven't seen a duplicate myself, so again not sure if these are 1/1 or not, but I have reservations. Have now seen scans of Ripken, Clemens, Maddux, Justice, Canseco, McGwire and Grace. These are definitely rare, but maybe not 1/1's.

These are at INSANE prices... I'm with you, NOT going to pony up for the Belle if it spikes... doubt anyone would list a Belle for this kind of money but if they did, they would have it in their hands forever because it'd never sell

Not trying to stir the pot here BUT is the only difference between the actual card and the "promo" just the typing on the back? In this day of patch fakers, wouldn't surprise me if one of those guys tried stepping up their fraud to just print "promotional card" on the back of these damn things and sell them for thousands. Some are saying these are 1/1s and there isn't anything to compare them too anyways right? Maybe I'm off my rocker but anyone making fake patch cards is obviously a crook and would be looking for the next easiest thing to fake and make a larger ticket.

There was no regular issue Bronze version, so nothing to stamp. The Justice collector could easily have seen a scan of the card he currently has before he owned it? I know that has happened a couple times and there are a couple McGwire cards that other collectors think there are multiples, but I know for a fact it's the same card. Either way, they are super rare, are from 1996, and we've seen 1 copy each of 7/77 players. That is enough for me to feel comfortable spending what I did. I also have to factor in what I think another collector might pay if I want to add it to my collection.

I agree though, you'd be crazy to spend that on the Grace, or Belle for that matter. You guys know your competition and can wait it out. There were a couple McGwire collectors not on this board that I thought I might not have that luxury.

Well put. As for the competition and seeing a Belle... I haven't seen a Belle but maybe these guys have all of the players and are just putting them out slowly? As for waiting, yea... I'd NEVER buy unless the price came to me... only competition would be a set collector at that price... I'd be happy to let it go for a HUGE ticket price

Picked up this lovely pair on COMC:

Grabbed the AB card the day it was listed, but didn't have enough funds to get the CD. I've been hoping no one grabbed it on me, then today I sold my port (trying to get funds for the National special, but my ad ran too late) and it was still there!

I have three sets now, this one, the Larry Walker set (thanks to the kindness of an swesome FCB'er!), and the Konerko set (that I bought for a quarter!) :)

Nice pick-up! I only have one copy of the Belle and haven't seen copies other than the dude in Greece selling them on the bay

Just curious, but did you ask the seller if these originally had the protective peel? Haven't seen a bronze with a peel, but the silvers and golds had them. You could be right about the Justice. As with any player collection, what a rare card is worth to one person won't be the same to another. Was the seller okay to deal with?

Can't someone who has the subscription to those sites that can search completed auctions on eBay just look to see how many have ever surfaced on eBay? I don't have an account or have ever used one of those sites but I've heard they can go back much further than you can with a simple eBay account.
