Pineda has not pitched for the Yankees outside of Spring Training.

The Yankees only wear their Pinstriped Jerseys in the First Home Game of Spring Training. Pineda did not pitch in that game.

If there are any Patch versions of this card there is no way that it is actually game used.

The best case scenario is that these are Spring Training Game Used Pants.

Oh, and why the heck does Topps keep stuffing Michael Pineda Yankees cards in every product?

He might have worn the jersey on the bench, which is techinically game used, but it could also be game issued.

The average cost to topps for young stars like this per autograph is around 13 cents....so I guess the real question is why wouldn't topps put it in ever
product?

If that were the case then it would be the same as the Montero "Game Used" Yankee Jerseys then.

The picture is gone, but it was a Jersey Tag (non cool base) that had the MLB and Steiner Certification. It came back as being from spring training 2011. Again, the Yankees only wear their non cool base pinstriped jerseys in the first ST game, and Montero did not play in that game.

Ya I remember the thread. I wish Topps put more research in to what they are actually buying and was more transparent with their game used items, but it's nothing new.

If I remember right, wasn't Pineda a future phenom last year? I am not sure how you can be a future phenom 2 years in a row, but I guess its possible. The funny thing is that there are more players theyve done this to this year- Pineda, Freddie Freeman, Starlin Castro (I think his autos are future phenom ones). To me its just kind of a joke.

I have actually seen 2 contracts in person. It was for 2006-2008 topps product stickers and 2008 donruss products. It was a tad under $1 per sticker signed. Played little league with this player.

My buddy who was in the Giants organization a few years back said that he and the rest of the guys were given contracts by Topps to produce cards and that they only paid him $5 for it. I imagine thats the standard for late round no names. Obviously Pineda is not that but i thought it was funny when he told me that.

That is for image rights, not autographs.

I have personally signed a few big name players to auto contracts and none of them for that insane amount schmidt fan was talking about.

Two examples

Mike trout in 2010 15$
Garret gould in 2010 $4 per

Stickers and flats

Several years ago i had access to local minor league clubhouse and there lots of cards to be signed that were trashed / not signed as for $ paid i don't know. Several players liked thier cards when first shown with stickers .

You will never get a response from topps, that is how they work. They don't care. I was emailing a topps VP today back and forth and he basically told
me that topps is focused only on future products and not past products like redemptions and certainly not issues like this. Maybe if a dealer had the balls
to call topps and speak to a liver person they could find an answer or at least put the guy on the spot!
