That is for image rights, not autographs.

I have personally signed a few big name players to auto contracts and none of them for that insane amount schmidt fan was talking about.

I bought these in the same quantity and got a competitive price. Topps does not get a discount just because of who they are.

When I worked at Topps, it worked like this:

Every player who signs their photo rights to Topps gets 5 bucks for doing so. Topps tries to sign every member of every organization to this contract.

If a player is used on a card, he gets a usage payment of an amount I cannot remember. I think it was like 500 bucks? Not enough for the big leaguers to care, but enough for the minor leaguers for me to get harangued at spring training about where those checks were.

The minimum paid for an auto was a dollar per. Nobody got less. The most we paid anyone at that time was 50 per. This was 2001-2002, so everything was on card. I guess it's possible that mailing stickers to someone has lowered those prices, but I doubt it.
