Isn't it amazing that most of the sets we have named weren't 200 dollars/pack products, but 2.99 a pack! Could that have something to do with it? 2001 Heritage had ALOT going for it, mostly what we all want in products...few redemptions, great autograph checklist with an even shot at pulling all the cards and total transparency in what is actually in the product, not to mention a fun set that was tough to put together. With that said, I will give honorable mention to a few sets:
06 Ginter. Bar none the funnest rip you could have for under 100 dollars. The baseball player autograph checklist by itself was award winning, not to mention a "championship" set that was VERY collectible. Ginter has been tremendously fun to rip over the years, partially due to the surprise factor. You never knew what the next pack could bring, even when you thought you had hit everything already.
00 Greats of the Game No Fleer product will ever be more revered than this set. In my opinion THE best autograph checklist ever assembled. What was even more amazing is that all of them were done ON CARD. A good selection of SP's made this set very popular with set builders too. The base cards were super simple but worked very well for TTM sigs. The 1:48 pack Yankee Clippings set which included one of the first Mantle jersey card, was just icing on the cake. This set is a reminder of what card companies can do when they put their mind to it, and also how diluted the market is today with quality and how glutton it is with quantity. I remember saying to myself back then, "man, 120 dollars for 4 on card autographs seems way too high"
How times have changed.
