You can also tap on it w/ a hammer. Often times when starters are going they just don't go. The brushes get stuck and tapping the casing can get you another week or month+

Going to try that tomorrow. Not real sure what's going on. It sounds like the starter is trying to engage the flywheel, but won't crank it. Hate working on vehicles.

Autozone quoted me just under $200 on a new starter, with warranty. Could buy a reman, but think I prefer the warranty.

Advanced has them for $80 + $20 core. Reman is just as good, you should get 100k miles out of a starter, easy.

Just spinning it common. A few taps with the hammer should free it up for a while. Also common when it is cold outside.

Herr in small town Kansas we have O'Reilley's (which I refuse to go to), autozone and the small local guy who is always $50 higher.

I may make the drive to Wichita or Tulsa to get one and save a good chunk of money. It was cold out this morning, but pushed 50 this afternoon so was hoping that'd help. It tried to turn over, bit just started clicking again. I'll tap on it tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'll beat the crab out of it and replace it.

Looks good Alex! On that note, I'm gonna be up for awhile. Not doing anything tonight and I took a nap earlier today so I've got nothing to do

If I remember correctly on my old Dodge Caravan the stater solenoid was up in the engine compartment. I would just take a screw-stick and jump across the terminals and the starter would engage as the wife turned the key.

Also you may want to check all the connections to everything that the stater uses, like the battery and the solenoid connections. Also the connectors can be replaced if bad and they do get bad from time to time. You can get them from a Toyota dealer since they use the same starter on some of there cars. Just pull the stater and then back off the terminals form the solenoid and take them to the Toyota dealer. They cost around 1.50 a piece so I would buy say for of them.
it is a cheap fix , before dropping 80+ on a stater

Search the dodge forum and sign up there and you will find the fix you need before dropping money into the stater. They do go bad but they have replaceable parts on them as well. I know this becuase I did this on my 1990's caravan and save a boat load of money. That car ran like a champ for the 10 years we had it and never replaced the stater only fixed a few parts and it was a hell of a lot cheaper for sure. And this problem has been going on for years.

Also in High school one of my auto shop class problems was the charging and starting system of a car. So I know how they worked and to this day they are almost the same way as they were back in the late 70's and early 80's. There is something added in but the basic initial start is the same.
Good luck man
