The Federal government isn't going to do anything about Colorado and Washington. Sure they could bust people if they wanted to in those states, but they will pretty much accept the fact that both states are not going to enforce drug laws in regards to marijuana. That's basically what these new laws mean, the Feds even admitted that they don't have to enforce the law if they don't want to.

It's almost like being in Jamaica. It isn't legal to possess or use marijuana, but the government doesn't enforce the laws.. usually.

MLB players can't be suspended for weed, only MILB players (see Jeremy Jeffress). So, if Houston decides to promote him to the MLB out of spring training, I wonder if the suspension would apply.

Interesting. I forgot about Lincecum and his joint joy ride.

But my gut feeling is that he'll never do it again while he's in the MLB if he has any brains. If we responded to drunk driving with confiscating a license for 10 years and a minimum of 3 months in jail I bet people would stop getting killed. It's a privilege to play in the MLB, not a right just because you're talented. I can bet he knew the rules and knowingly risked it anyways, no sympathy.

he had to test positive twice to get the 50 game. he did it was told not to do it and did it again.

As long as he plays sober who cares? Wasn't a perfect game pitched on LSD? If you come and perform ie are still able to do your job, in this case play a baseball game, then it shouldn't be anybody's business.

-awaits application of argument and rebuttal attempts through PED reasoning-

You're looking at this issue through a black and white lens. These athletes are role models for youngsters and they're also privileged multimillionaires, so why can't they be expected to stay away from dope? They have to set the right example and that's why I completely agree that DUI needs to carry a much harsher response from the MLB.

I have to agree while it's dumb to label weed, in the same sentence as steroids as being a no-no....the rules, are still....well.....the rules. While we all may disagree on it, the facts still don't change...If you know it's banned, you got to stay away from it, or you knwo the consequences...In my opinion, he shouldn't be suspended, but at the same time, it's a no-no, and this is his 2nd offense....

I know it's not easy to do, but you got to stay away man, I don't know what the answer is, besides changing whats illegal, but at the end of the day, it is......what it is

All I am saying is some guys get addicted to it man...You say the same about a alcholic?..."How hard is it to NOT drink"???...Seriously man, some guys get addicted, and they don't give a rat's you know what, about money, they don't care...

It's like the guy who goes before the judge for the god knows how many times, for the same charge, and the judge asks "This is the 4 th time you have been before me for the same charge"..And he replies "I know your honor, I'm sorry, I won't do it again", and before you know it, there in a worse place than when they started, all because they couldn't leave it alone, whether it be drugs, alcohol, who knows..

"Grow the hell up"?....I passed that stage many years ago, no need to insult me...I was just saying for some people it's NOT as easy as you may think, otherwise, maybe go to work as a counselor, and tell them..."You have $$$ money on the line, what are you doing"!!...If it was that easy to quit, guys wouldn't be getting busted for multiple offenses, of the SAME offense...

Weed tends to be labelled as a non-addictive drug. At least that's what they say when you go to drug and alcohol counselling.

The players should realize there are lots of players waiting to take thier job so not worth the risk . Players will have no insurance if injured while on drugs/ alcohol there goes rehab .
Local news recently stated that 25 % of students have used alcohol / drugs . One parent even said the teachers aren't doing enough ??? Teachers have students 180 days and several hours a day where are the parents?

Addiction to Marijuana is the excuse? Sorry, that is just not good enough.

The large majority of people who try marijuana do it experimentally and never become addicted. Unlike other substances, pot has very few severe withdrawal symptoms and most people can quit rather easily. When present, withdrawal symptoms might include: anxiety, depression, nausea, sleep disturbances and GI problems.
Compared to other substances, marijuana is not very addicting. It is estimated that 32% of tobacco users will become addicted, 23% of heroin users, 17% of cocaine users, and 15% of alcohol users. Cocaine and heroin are more physically harmful and nicotine is much more addictive. It is much harder to quit smoking cigarettes than it is to quit smoking pot.

You forgot the other part of that article that says, after studies were done, 10-30% will develop dependency and 9% will have a serious addiction.

I wasn't arguing the % of ppl that were addicted, or that its less addicting than other stuff, BUT....it can STILL be addicting nonetheless....I'm just saying rules, are the rules, and it was his 2nd time for the SAME offense, so he must be 1 of 2 things....

#1. ADDICTED
#2. DOESN'T CARE

It's really as simple as that....

People who are saying that he should be suspended because drugs are drugs are idiots. If you honestly think that weed should be a 50 game suspension and that coke or steroids should be the same that is absurd.
