It should ahve been made even before they announced it. This way this can't happen. But hey it is Topps the idea is always good, but the execution sucks as always.
This is what amazes me the most, the mere existence of the Redemption programs. I understand that some players take longer, but then the company needs to find a way to avoid them or put them in a future product. We've seen cases where it takes years for redemption to get honored which is just stupid. How they're allowed to do promote a product based on items NOT in hand is beyond me.

I will tell you that the people I know who have these redemptions did NOT roll over and accept CASES of Archives in place of a gold infused baseball signed by these three greats... If they did, then there is no b!tching obviously...

If I were a guy holding one of these redemptions I'd want AT LEAST an auto of the three guys separately or something... Royal screw-up and it's sad for those who bought the redemptions in hopes to get one of these balls...

Also, if its true that Mays doesn't sign items with Aaron on it, why would Topps know this? I'm just shocked you'd have a huge promotion for an item you were basically hoping you could get created lol

Well if Mays was under contract to Topps, how could he refuse to sign something? That'd be a breach of contract and Topps can sue Willie, although I doubt that was the case. Besides there were only a couple dozen of these redemptions, so if Willie refused to sign a ball with Aaron's auto on it, Topps easily could've gone out and bought a few more blank gold baseball to get willie to sign, and then have Aaron sign those.

Wasn't the whole product based around this promotion??? I would think they could take legal action if they really wanted to. everyone who bought this product hoping to get one of these balls was basically lied to & had no chance at getting the ball.

Absolutely correct. I tweeted them again asking how they could advertise that not knowing for sure that they could make it. Will see if they keep replying

There weren't dozens of these redemptions... There were only 20! I say that because this was truly a find the golden ticket type of promotion and it was basically a hoax...

To someone else's point, this release was based around this single promotion and it was really never in the works... What's next? Buy 2013 Topps Series 1 for a chance at what? Cases or 2012 Archives?! Lol

They'll go silent eventually... This is something I'm sure they don't want to get out...

Still don't believe Topps is being completely honest. If Mays is the problem, then why not have Griffey and Aaron sign them. That would still be a valuable piece. To make up for the Mays auto either:
A: If it is because Mays won't sign with other players, have him sign a Gold Auto ball by himself
B: Send the customer a Signed Mays piece (Ball, Glove, Card, etc...).
Then give the customer a little something extra to make up for THEIR mistake.

I wish the companies would not place redemptions in the products if they do not already have the item in hand and ready to ship. Now I understand with a baseball they can't place it in the product like a card and that some cards are going to be signed but army yet. This however is a huge problem and I hope they don't do this again

added an option C up there.

Whats Mays' beef with Aaron?

Sent from my HUAWEI-M920 using Freedom Card Board mobile app

I was told this but two guys at the autograph area at the 2001 National so take it for what its worth.

It's not that Mays has a beef with Aaron. It's that Mays wants to be considered top dog. Aaron signed a ball for me that day for $65. Mays charged $75. Mays would not sign anything that was already signed by someone else. Last but not least, Mays distanced himself from the other signers at the 2001 National.

But Willie really wasn't all that bad. Aaron did approach Mays to say hello. Willie made sure to get out of his chair, shake Aaron's hand and they talked for about a minute. Willie has always been hot and cold with autographs but he signed three balls for me that day and they were all flawless signatures on the sweet spot.

One last note. We should all realize that this problem isn't necessarily caused by Mays. I only commented on Willie because of the three guys expected to sign these balls, Aaron and Griffey are usually pretty easy to deal with.

I thought about that but maybe that isn't the reason for him not signing. Also, Topps put it in the public that the ball would have all 3 signed. So if Topps gave Mays a gold ball to sign, he would know exactly what it's for. You also don't want to piss off Mays, even if you have an exclusive contract. When the contract expires, there is no way he would work with you again. So in the long run it's not worth it.
