Not without a prescription. Problem is, scripps are easy to get. But it's still against mlb rules to take. Only interesting thing is what happens if you get a guy with a serious disability where he has to take HGH or some form of steroid and MLB trys to pop him for taking his normal medicine. I'm sure all these guys have a "real prescription" but most of it is for trying to come back from injuries and taking them just for the edge they give. What happens when it's medically necessary?

I agree with all that, but to make sportscardthorey shut up, is it against the law to take steriods? If so, show me the law about that. Thank you

Only a complete idiot wouldn't know that steroids are illegal to purchase, sell and use without a prescription. Do you you really want me to prove how much of an idiot you are?

Show me the law that says I cant use them. I know you cant use them blah blah blah but show me the law that says that. Thank you.

The law that says a person can't use steroids?

A) Most steroids are controlled substances and illegal to possess without a prescripton
B) When a player signs his contract he is agreeing to the Joint Drug Agreement MLB has in place which says he cannot take them unless he receives prior MLB approval.

I don't jump through hoops for morons. Everyone knows that it's true. You just want to play games by asking me to show you proof when I don't need to show you proof because it's a known fact. Buzz off, moron.

From reading their posts, I think the issue is age, not intelligence.

Although, the two are intertwined.

the players who are getting caught did something wrong. i think most noodles would explode on this board if there was a league wide random test done at some point. MLB might not be going after cheaters because the result could ruin the game.

I think one of two things should across professional sports:

1. go after it and do extreme damage to the game
2. accept it as a part of the game and move on

I saw a show once about steroids and sports. This one guy made a great point. people like A-Rod and Bonds young kids look up to and want to be big stars like they are and know they use so these kids will do the same. And why not. These pros dont get into much trouble when cought. but the problem is that these pros get the best stuff out there and the kids get the junk and are killing themselfs useing it.

Is that for everyone or just professional athletes?

The status quo seems to be a nice compromise between these.

Well, thats the question i guess. Are we ok with only those dumb enough to do it wrong being caught?

It appears that MLB thinks that may be OK for only the dummies to get caught... for now... until it can figure out a system where few (if any?) players are actually using. To be fair, it seems the MLB is making progress on this front. This is probably the best possible strategy as it doesn't alienate anyone.

But like anything its not fair to expect any system to be absolutely perfect, I just expect the MLB to make a strong effort to do what they say they're going to do here.

It's againbst the law to be in possesion of any controlled substance without a prescription for it. Back in the day, players were getting these without prescriptions so they were breaking the law and breaking the MLB's rules. Now, they try to get prescriptions from seedy places.

Wanna know what would end PEDs is baseball? Team opt-out clauses on EVERY contract for failed drug tests or evidence of purchase/use.

Yeah but honestly, if the suspensions are as light as they are, and if a team can keep from having to pay the player during the suspension, would you really, as a team owner, want to get rid of a guy who is producing quite well for you? The Yankees are trying to get rid of A-Rod because he is costing them way too much and not producing enough.
