Show me the law that says I cant use them. I know you cant use them blah blah blah but show me the law that says that. Thank you.

If I recall it was a Controlled Substances Act that came into place from the government around 1989-1990ish. It's been detailed and explained in many books pertaining to steroids. This is what ultimately led the commissioner at the time to step in and send a memo to all clubs stating that it was going to be against rules to use any steroids. They just didn't enforce it. Kind of like it being against the rules to show up late for work every day but nobody reprimands you. Theoretically they could come back and fire you over it...

the players who are getting caught did something wrong. i think most noodles would explode on this board if there was a league wide random test done at some point. MLB might not be going after cheaters because the result could ruin the game.

I think one of two things should across professional sports:

1. go after it and do extreme damage to the game
2. accept it as a part of the game and move on

At this point it shouldn't ruin the game. At least not any more than it already has. Damage has been done. But either throw some hard punches or none at all. Why half ass it? Just like my showing up to work late analogy, either fire people for it or don't. Don't sit there and be sporadic and random.

If 20 or 30% of players are using them, you really think these 5 or 6 getting caught now is the same thing?

The VAST majority of examples show that PED's dont make bad players good players but may make very good players seem great.

The Giambi and Canseco brothers are good examples of PED's not being a factor that makes a player a star...

Ok, I know everyone here trys to be completely objective and say "well we don't know and can't say who is using so we have to presume them to be innocent till proven otherwise". That doesn't work for me though. Truth be told, I feel like more than 30% probably use. If they came out tomorrow and told me the following players had used during their career: Griffey Jr, Pujols, Stanton, Miggy, Ryan Howard, Bagwell, Biggio, Nolan Ryan, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, Chipper Jones, Frank Thomas etc... I wouldn't even bat an eyelash. Do I think all of the guys I just mentioned used? Some of them yes. But I'm just not surprised anymore. I'm not. It wouldn't ruin anything anymore for me because it is what it is. I mean, from a fans perspective, what can I do? Swear off baseball? And watch what other sport where people haven't tried to gain an edge?

I do agree that when you think about playing baseball with natural strength and ability, steroids don't seem to fit. I'm not even sure I want them involved in the game. But there are so many players who have taken them, at the end of the day...what should we as fans do? So like I said, whether it's 5 players or 500, what the hell does it matter? I don't go to sleep at night assuming all of the current and past stars are clean until proven otherwise. I just don't feel that way anymore.

To actually put a fine point on this:
Title 21, Subchapter 1, Section 801:
21 USC, Section 801

The Controlled Substances Act was signed into law by Nixon in 1970 and has been amended many times to add substances. Anabolic steroids were specifically added in 1990 as Schedule III compounds. Lots of stuff is illegal to take without a prescription.

Of course this can all be negated by a rather simple to obtain/fake prescription.

Didnt know about that act

Thank you for the info
It's basically THEE law regarding things you can't eat/take. I'm a chemist (pharmaceutical, organic) and you'd be surprised at the things that fall under the CSA. Anything that can be in meth, common solvents, etc. Lots of cancer suspect agents as well.

It's fairly well known knowledge that anabolic steroids are considered controlled substances and subject to state and federal statutes concerning possession and use of such substances.

Here is a link to the Minnesota statute. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?id=152
List of controlled substances (anabolic steroids are a Class III controlled substance - near bottom of page) https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?id=152.02

They can make AAA players MLB players. A lot of guys who take them dont take them to become superstars, they take them to get a spot, or to keep a spot on a major league roster. That MLB pension is pretty sweet.

The plot thickens......from Roto:

T.J. Quinn and Mike Fish of ESPN.com report that Anthony Bosch of Biogenesis of America clinic injected Alex Rodriguez with performance-enhancing drugs multiple times at the player's Biscayne Bay mansion.

The report states that most athletes associated with the Coral Gables clinic "relied on intermediaries to transport the performance-enhancing drug regimens Bosch provided," but A-Rod was only handled personally by Bosch. Bosch's visits to A-Rod's mansion were reportedly every few weeks, with one visit resulting in Rodriguez kicking Bosch out after he was unable to find a vein needed for an injection. A-Rod's spokesman has already denied the new report, stating that "the allegations are not true."

Rumor has it that since A-Rod knows his excuse of being "young and naive" won't work this time around, he declares he's just washed up and a b!tch.

I was going to buy the book on all this but went for Don Zimmer instead. Go figure. Hope it's still there next time I go.

I hope this is enough for the Yankees to relase him from his contract now. And I am a Yankees fan. The guy has lived out his welcome and its time to go.

Not just from the Yankees, his time to get out of MLB has come IMO. Unfortunately for the Yanks, I think they are stuck paying that contract unless he retires....I think?
