Today I received this card in the mail from Topps. The accompanying letter stated that it was the replacement for a long-outstanding redemption. Does anyone here know what this is from? There is no product identification on it other than “Topps”. There is no card number. Looking at the checklist for 2013 Topps, the only Sheffield card listed is a “Chasing History” card that a) has a card number, b) has no serial number, and c) shows him with the Marlins. It appears to me that they simply printed a generic card and slapped a sticker auto and low serial number on it to make it look “valuable”.
To answer the obvious questions:
1. No; I did not contact Topps in any way asking for a replacement…this just simply showed up out of the blue. Now when I look at my redemption page, this one shows as “shipped”.
2. The redemption was for a true first-year rookie card with an ON-CARD autograph and relic piece. Oh yeah, and it was a 1/1.
They’ll be getting a call tomorrow to try to sort this out, and I guess I’ll have to pay out of my pocket to send it back just because someone there decided that this was a valid solution (without even having the decency to contact me first). As a RC collector, this Sheffield card does not fit into my collection AT ALL.
BS. Anyway…anyone seen these before?
