Runners on first and third, fly ball to the pitcher, without tagging the runner on first runs to second, the fly ball is caught, the runner on third tags, the fielder who caught the ball throws it to first, however the runner crosses the plate before the force out at first, does the run count?

Give me your opinions and I will let you know the outcome.

Off top of my head I would have to say run shouldn't count because of the force out.

All of the charades above are meaningless unless there is 1 out...which has not been specified.

Considering zero outs mentioned...the run scores.

It would depend on how many outs there were at the beginning of the play...If no outs then the run would score...if it's 1 out, it's a double play, inning over since the batter did not reach base safely.

I'd rule it a infield home run.

The game is halted so the crowd can unmercifully taunt any pitcher who can't lob a caught infield fly over to first base in the time it would take a tagging runner on 3rd base to sprint all the way home. What did he do, rainbow a high pop-up over to the first sacker? I mean, infield fly to the pitcher is a pretty short throw to first.

If it did happen, I'd say run counts. Not an infield fly situation, hitter is out when ball is caught, 2nd out isn't a force out, so if runner crosses plate first, run should count.

Run does not count due to the force out.

Well run counted and we lost. Totally unreal that this could have happened to us.

I guess it does count after all...this is almost the exact same situation as the OP mentioned:

This rule caught the umpires as well as then-Baltimore Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo and his coaching staff sleeping on April 28, 2007, in Cleveland.

In the top of the third with the Orioles leading 2-1, Baltimore had Nick Markakis on third and Miguel Tejada on first with one out when Ramon Hernandez lofted a fly ball to center field that the Cleveland Indians' Grady Sizemore dove for and caught. Markakis tagged up, and Tejada, who was off with the pitch, tried to return to first but was doubled up.
Markakis touched the plate long before Tejada was put out to end the inning, but plate umpire Marvin Hudson erroneously did not allow the run to score. To make matters worse for Baltimore, Perlozzo didn't argue that his team lost a run.
Concerned that the umpires had misinterpreted the rule or simply blown the call, crew chief Ed Montague sent umpire Bill Miller into the clubhouse the next inning to check the rule book. The verdict was that Markakis' run should have scored.
In the fifth, the Indians tied the score 2-2. The next inning, Montague called the official scorer and shocked everyone by adding a run to Baltimore's score (making it 3-2 Orioles), realizing his crew had erred by not allowing Markakis' run to count three innings earlier.
Indians manager Eric Wedge protested the game, which was eventually won by the Orioles 7-4. But the protest was denied. Major League Baseball President Bob Dupuy acknowledged that the umpires initially misapplied rule 4.09 (a) but added that the rules don't state when the umps can make a correction.

According to this - the run does count, because the 3rd out is not recorded until the player/bag is tagged.

The third out rule doesn't apply to first base. The hitter has to touch 1B for the run to score. Meaning even say you have 1st and 3rd, 1 out and the hitter grounds to the 2B. If the runner from 3B takes off and scores before the 3rd out, it doesn't count if they turn the DP since the hitter is out before he reaches safely, regardless of the runner.

The rule, specifically 4.09a1:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/downloads/y2013/official_baseball_rules.pdf

4.09
HOW A TEAM SCORES.
(a) One run shall be scored each time a runner legally advances to and touches first,
second, third and home base before three men are put out to end the inning.
EXCEPTION: A run is not scored if the runner advances to home base during a
play in which the third out is made (1) by the batter-runner before he touches first
base;
(2) by any runner being forced out; or (3) by a preceding runner who is
declared out because he failed to touch one of the bases.
