I'm curious if they were just defending him because he was 'their guy', which is understandable.

Or if they actually thought he was innocent the first time, which is completely naive of anyone. Because it was 100% he was guilty.

Nope.

From the espn article:

Braun, the 2011 MVP, was commended by MLBPA association executive director Michael Weiner for accepting the punishment.

"I am deeply gratified to see Ryan taking this bold step," Weiner said in a statement. "It vindicates the rights of all players under the Joint Drug Program. It is good for the game that Ryan will return soon to continue his great work both on and off the field."

Last week, Weiner said that the MLBPA wouldn't fight for any players who might be suspended when faced with overwhelming evidence that they used performance-enhancing drugs.

...and Selig was pissed that any sort of commendation was given. There's a reason Braun was the only one to be suspended for the time being.

Evidence showed that this was not a one time "injury rehab boost". Meticulous continued using gets you 65 games? Sounds to me he's talking to save himself and to do what he does best, throw the others under the bus.

Why he would be untouchable or face another lawsuit. he will get paid I guarantee it Braun plus back wages vacation PTO etc.
Cha Ching my man I bet he has lawyers beating his door down

It's always been reported that he was fired due to mishandling. The mishandling was brought to light because of the failed test, but its - technically - not why he was fired. I doubt he sues, and - if he does - I doubt he wins any considerable amount.

I always knew he used something once the positive test came out. Never claimed he was innocent, but did give him the benefit of the doubt because he played for the team I root for.

That bad taste that's been in my mouth since the 2012 harlequin press conference finally got rinsed out. We all knew he very likely took something (except maybe @brauny ) but the cockiness doesn't play too well here in the Midwest. Believe me there are a LOT of Brewers fans smiling tonight, though at the same time angered by the way this attention has been brought to this already XXXXty team with a sub-par history

BREWER ANDY, just because my handle is BRAUNY doesn't mean I feel deceived, crap we all do. Requesting a new handle as we speak and I am done with this guy. Bring on Scooter and Tyrone Taylor. Let this be a lesson to all the young players in MiLB. TONGUE IN CHEEK here. Juice up on this stuff, sign a $150 million dollar contract, get caught and only forfeit $3.25 million. Looks like a good deal to me.

Well I'm sorry you had to see the light in this context. I too am looking forward to watching the remainder of the season without this distraction every time he steps on the field. Back to the Segura/Gomez show

Segura show yes, Gomez although having a good season is not the future. Tyrone Taylor is. I would be willing to bet that 50% of all position players are on something or were in the Minors and now off of it. I know Piazza was in the minors, had teammates that played with him, and then scaled it back in the majors. Just sad for baseball, ughhhh.

I don't even know what to say. So much time so much $ invested. Bad day. Tough day

Do you only have one red ink? I thought you had a couple before i sold you mine. Damn shame, like Aroid, Bonds and Clemens - SO much talent only to throw it all away for greed.

This is exactly why there will continue to be rapant PED use in baseball.

How about this, 1st offense the player plays for league minimum the rest of his career, 2nd offense lifetime ban.

The punishment needs to hurt badly in order for this league to get cleaned up.

1) What evidence are you referencing? He was tested multiple times and only failed once, pre and post positive in October.

2) Are you reading different articles than me? The ones on ESPN claim that the evidence against Braun was "over whelming" (hence MLBPA saying they wouldn't defend him). If MLB has over whelming evidence on these guys, why do they need a "snitch" at this point? They have their stoolie on Bosch.

If you could do something other than guess what you thin other people think, you might add something to this discussion.

If they really want to encourage these athletes to not use PED's, the MLBPA and MLB itself, need to agree to put language in the contracts that allow the teams to void the contracts if one test for PED's is failed.

If they want it cleaned up, do that. If either side refuses, obviously they don't want to clean up the game.

How do his staunch supporters feel now?

I never bashed him, and won't now. I don't care.

I am just curious how the people who were adamant in his defense feel.

I still stand by my defense from the first instance. I will admit that part of it was willing to ignore (not deny, just ignore) the PED test because MLB XXXXed Braun in the first place by allowing his results to be made public outside of the process; I.E. Positive test-appeal-descision-publicity based on descision result. I found it incredibly ironic that Braun got to slide out of a suspension by holding the entire process 100% accountable (loopholes are still part of a process); at the same time, MLB couldn't be counted on to keep his privacy intact. Ironic.

I also really only ever tried to defend his defense, if that makes sense. I don't think I ever said he didn't use (unless I was guessing in the days after the initial release, ****** or something). I only said that his defense was 100% accurate; and based that on having a career that deals with evidence collection and chain-of-custody.

Is that clear? Sam, I like that you're actually asking a question you want to know the answer to, as opposed to the thousands of high-horse, rhetorical questions that will proceed for the next few months.

A new rule should be in place, if you use, you are banned for life. Test everyone right now including minor leaguers.

I don't see why they can't just test everyone all at once.

Get the government involved again if you have to.

SURPRISE the teams one day, saying all games are cancelled for three days. And every single MLB player, active and on the DL, have to be in a certain city at a certain time to be tested. And if you miss, you're GONE from the game forever, contracts cancelled.

That'd clean the game up for sure.

The NFL will be blood testing all players to "determine a baseline HGH level"

Looks like Goodell is cracking down finally.

The Brewers should offer Free Braun Replacement jerseys like the Pats did with Hernandez.
