card came in a top loader but when I took it out it was completely warped almost into a half circle. I messaged the seller to let him know the card came damaged and asked what we should do. since the card was only $2.99 I wasn't too worried about pretty much just wanted to let him know about it. this was the response I got from him

The card isn't damaged. These cards had issues with being warped. If you set the card in a toploader and place a few heavy books on top of it or put it in a really cold climate, the card should shape itself back to normal. I would recommend using books. I did it for the Orioles cards from this set for my personal keeps and it worked like a charm.
::facepalm::

sent him the pic too before his response

its not damaged

What set is that from? I recall some Topps Chrome cards form a few years back being horribly warped fresh out of the pack.

+1....if it's a mid late 2000s Chrome card (especially Topps Chrome) that's nothing out of the ordinary, as they came out of the pack like this. This isn't said to take a side as to who is right or wrong, but the seller may have done nothing wrong if it's simply a card from one of those sets.

If it was my card I was selling I would list that it came out of the pack warped & it's still warped.

Gotta love the Topps Warped edition. I've never had luck straightening those out.

Sucks that the seller didn't specifically mention that in the description because it's something that could be an obvious turn off to many collectors, but at the same time, it's pretty common so some people just don't think to mention it. If the card was worthy of being graded and had high grades all the way around, I'm sure it would still grade out high...if that's something that you're thinking about. Last I checked, PSA and BGS don't have a "Curvature" sub-grade.

I wouldn't use books, I've always found cement blocks to be most effective ::facepalm::

Personally I wouldn't have a problem with it

bgs slabs curved cards I don't see it as a defect

if you got the card and planned on not keeping it in a top loader then I see where your coming from

if you are keeping it in a top loader I don't see it

As a seller wouldn't you just offer a refund? If the buyer isn't happy and the warping wasn't mentioned in the description it should be a no brainer?

I'm not even worried about it, it was $2.99 but that wasn't the response I was expecting.

actually, it's quite a normal condition.

From what I understand this happens when the printer rushes the printing process on two layer cards. They combine the fronts and the back and if they cut the card before the glue has time to cure, it curls.

Anyone in this hobby should know this is common with Chrome cards. Ive sold plenty of cards like this and never had an issue.

I've had big warped/curving issues with 2012 Topps Gold Sparkle and 2013 Topps Emerald & Blue Sparkle cards. Mine have always bowed in just one way though, not completely warping in all directions like your pic. Like if you look from the side the edge is straight, but from the top or bottom it's very curved. The seller's explanation is correct and it is a common issue with these cards.

It may be a normal condition for those cards but the seller should have mentioned it in the listing. Maybe an inexperienced seller. He needs to learn.

I don't understand how these people are siding with the seller. It doesn't matter if its a common defect. IT IS A DEFECT. If he didn't mention it in the description, it's ridiculous of him to reply to you like that.

It's not a defect if this is normal for the card. I have 20 years worth of chrome cards, Bowman Chrome, Bowman's Best, Topps Chrome and Topps Finest, Etc. Most have a similar curve to them. It makes it easier for me to pick out my chrome cards from the non chrome cards. I have sold several cards which had the same "defect" for anywhere from $100 to $400 each. One of my buyers was so happy with his card, he had it graded by Beckett which graded it a BGS 9.5 and then sold it for $725. He is now a friend and buys cards directly from me.
