The Giants are sending Kyle Crick (SP, San Jose), Adalberto Mejia (SP, San Jose), Cody Hall (RP, Richmond), Andrew Susac (C, Richmond), Angel Villalona (1b, Richmond), and Jarrett Parker (OF, Richmond) to the Arizona Fall League.

Parker is at risk in this year's Rule 5 draft, so if he does well, Giants will probably put him on the 40 man roster or he'll get poached.

Speaking of the Rule 5 draft, Gary Brown is also eligible to be taken away via that draft. Bobby Evans has already said that they're adding Heath Hembree to the 40 man and will probably give him a September callup. They haven't made any sort of commitment about Brown though. Could be that they'll add him and call him up, could be that they add him and tell him to go home, or it could be that they don't think anyone would want to take him away and are going to leave him unprotected.

I prefer Brown over Hembree.........

But either way, if they are going to give hembree a september callup, i say put brown on the 40 and tell him to have a productive winter. I truly think he has potential to be an all star

The only reason I could see as to why they won't call him up is if they don't want to DFA anyone else before the season's over. The 40 man roster is full, and they're already going to have to dump 2 people to get Pagan back on and to make a spot for Hembree.

The guys who probably won't be on the 40 man roster next season are:
Guillermo Moscoso
Yusmeiro Petit
Dan Runzler
Barry Zito
Tony Abreu
Gregor Blanco
Kensuke Tanaka
Andres Torres

Runzler. Man, I remember back when Romo and Runzler were going to be our lights out righty / lefty setup team to get the game to Wilson in the 9th. 4 years and 2 World Series championships later, Romo's the closer, Runzler's a Grizzly, and Wilson's a CENSORED.

Andres Torres is having surgery to remove bone spurs, and is now out for the rest of the season. He's been one of the better club-house-guys we've had in SF for a while.

Anyways, there's one of the two 40 man roster spots we'll need (Pagan and Hembree)

Giants are apparently mobilizing their scouting department to check out pitcher Masahiro Tanaka in Japan and are waiting eagerly to see when Jose Abreu (recent Cuban defector) surfaces.

Apparently watching the Dodgers hit the jackpot twice with Puig and Ryu makes the Giants want to try that slot machine too.

I feel like snagging guys out of central america or any of the small latin island countries is a good idea, especially since you can grab young young kids for cheap and give their tools the grooming they need.

I say go balls out on the kid, leave Tanaka in Japan.

Ive never been big on the amount of money teams keep throwing at average Japanese players.

Does it make a difference if a player comes out of the NPB or the KBO? Either way to sign one of those guys is to sign a guy who's skills may or may not translate in the MLB.

Not a superstar but Aoki has had a nice couple of seasons. (We'll see if he and Darvish flame out though Aoki will be 32 when next season starts) I think they're worth the risk as long as you don't have to pay crazy just to negotiate with them

Choo didn't really make a transition, he was signed out of high school and started his professional career in the US. He wasn't a product of any of the Asian pro leagues.

Hideki Matsui had a few really good years, but broke down once his knees went. What's interesting is that I don't think either him or Ichiro every played in every game in a season in Japan, but then both went on to do that for their first few years in the US. Both played in nearly every game until they had their first real injuries.

Like Kaz Matsui, there was the big list of Japanese All-Stars that missed the mark...Fukudome, Iguchi, Iwamura, Nakamura, Irabu, Shinjo (who wasn't really All-Star calibre in Japan, he was just really popular, and some genius American scouts didn't seem to notice his lack of good stats in Japan...ditto for So Taguchi), Kawakami, Igarashi.

Johjima had a pretty good MLB career, especially considering his position. Everyone keeps overlooking the Yankees ace for the last two years, Hiroki Kuroda (who was great with LA, they just wouldn't score him any runs...seriously, how does a 3.07 ERA go with a 13-16 record?).

Tim Lincecum wants to know that too. In 2011 (his last good year) he went 13-14 with a 2.74 era.

I Feel like johjimas career was too short lived in MLB and yes, I would put kuroda with darvish, lets see how they do in a couple years.

Ugh. I haven't seen a Gold Ref Francoeur for sale since I started looking. What's worse is that people selling Francoeur's key cards in general seem to be trying to get 2005 prices for them.

Hmm, interesting list from the context of being both "beloved" and productive.

Posey, Wilson, Lincecum, Bonds, The Thrill, Vida, McCovey, Montefusco, Cepeda, Mays.


While Brian Wilson was popular, I don't really see him fitting on the list. Each of these guys were All Stars, but the others were also the glue that kept Giants fans attention through thick and thin.
