While it wasn't so much a question of "good enough," and more so of interests, he was considered a highly rated prospect and received a contract offer from the NY Giants, but didn't want the lifestyle.

The movie "Painting With Fire" is great for his hyperbolic descriptions of his baseball abilities. But his painting was pretty good, too.

Mario Cuomo got a bigger signing bonus than Mickey Mantle. He went on to some notoriety, if not universal acclaim.
