With his 3rd home run in 5 games, Pujols is now at 495 home runs. When do you think he will hit number 500?

I think May 7th, versus the Yankees seems pretty reasonable, although I'm hoping it is sooner than that...

(And yes, I'm pulling for him to do really well as I loaded up on his Rookie cards in the off season.)

More importantly, does anyone still care about Pujols?

If he hits, people will begin to care again. He's arguably one of the top 10 hitters in baseball history, he's approaching a milestone number and it looks like there's a chance he'll revert to being a very valuable hitter.

I never thought I'd be to this point being a Cubs fan, but I respect the guy and hope he stays healthy enough to finish out his career on a high note. I can see him still being a guy that can hit .300/30/100 for a few more years. Not worth $30 mil a year, but has enough talent to make him respectable.

For being only five homers away, there is absolutely no hype surrounding Pujols right now.
The mystique of 500 home runs was totally ruined by McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, Palmeiro and Arod.

And Pujols hasn't exactly been a beloved player since he left St. Louis.
Angels fans are upset at him for not living up to his contract, and Cardinals fans feel that he betrayed them. The rest of the fans know his place in history, but don't seem to revere him like they did (and many believe he was a PED user himself, so the milestone is just meh to them.

Pujols will never be revered as legends like Musial, Mays, Mantle, Aaron... or even modern icons like Griffey, Ripken or Jeter, despite what Pujols' numbers end up being.

Time moves fast and waits for no man. That said (and I know better), it FEELS like it's been almost a decade since Pujols was the most feared hitter in baseball and one of the greatest ever. But make no mistake he was

100% agree

Stars like Jeter can slowly decline without the spotlight on them because he didn't leave the franchise that he was the face of and sign a huge deal that gets thrown in the headlines. Every HOF player declines of course but Pujols put one gigantic spotlight on himself.

I understand that money is money but Pujols had so much of it already....leaving St. Louis was a damn shame. He could have been a top ten legend of baseball.

Re:Cards I hope you do well topnotchy but I do not think you will turn much if any profit. Pujols wrecked his own legend status.

He will always be overshadowed by Trout, the best player in the game.I don't feel betrayed by him, but the "God told me to sign with Angels" was nonsense.I don't ever see his cards getting a huge spike either.

I dont blame Pujols or Cano for taking a huge payday.

Baseball is a business first.

These guys might only get one chance to strike it rich, so of course theyre gonna take whoever offers the most.

Pujols was a feared player back then, but he is not the player he was a few years back. Agreed, he should have stayed in St. Louis, but it is what it is. I don't think Pujols will ever be as intimidating to pitchers now like he was maybe 3-5 years back.

I think it's funny people act like Cano and Pujols we're making chump change with Yankees and Cardinals, and they just now "struck it rich" with their new teams. These guys aren't fools, they knew what they were getting into when they moved. So go enjoy your massive contracts, and then fade into obscurity for the next decade.

Pujols was offered $210 million by the Cardinals.

He had also made over $100 million in his career with the Cardinals up to that point.

Correct me if I am wong, but didnt Pujols get suspended or something back in the 2000s for taking "something" for an elbow injury? Not use if it was PED though...

Then I shall correct you. He had been injured a few times, prior to leaving St. Louis, but never suspended for anything. If you look at his stats, the only significant absences from the line up for him were a 15-day stint on the DL in 2006, and again in 2008.
