Agreed. (...but at least it's not as bad as the NBA Hall of Fame.) :-)

Here is a link to nine HOF players who may not be HOF worthy

(Yes, Scooter Rizzuto and Bill Mazeroski are on the list.)

I may be biased (I collect Mazeroski), but I think Maz belongs. He seems to be one of the rare times when a player's defensive prowess made up for their below-HOF standard offensive stats. I find it interesting that, while many knowledgeable fans want to see defense rewarded in the HOF, plenty of other fans do not want defensive stars elected if their offensive numbers don't stack up.

Just picked this up, actually:

ESPN is reporting that a third of the votes have been made public, and so far Griffey has 100% of the votes, Piazza has 90% and Bagwell is at 84%.
So unless something drastic changes in the voting trend, those are the three inductees.

The argument that Kurt Cobain used heroine (and it arguably gave his music depth and value) and is still in the Rock and Roll HoF, should be applied to guys like Sosa and McGwire. They used a nefarious substance to make their game better. It's interesting. The Rock and Roll HoF literally has criminals in it, while guys like Sosa and McGwire didn't actually break any laws (or rules, technically; at least not as they were at the time). Yet the BBWAA wants to have some moral objectivity about cheating.

I say anyone who covered baseball during that time and didn't bat an eye at these guys becoming monsters, should have their current HoF vote revoked.

I think they should be in. That HR race was easily worth HOF induction on its own. However, they used peds and peds were banned. Just not an enforced rule. Perhaps the question is were the substances they used considered a "steroid"? The FDA doesn't (or at least didn't) regulate the supplement industry all that well. Definitely something worth looking at...

Sweetness!

Griffey, Piazza, and Bagwell would be a nice HOF inductee class. And it would really be cool if Jr. sticks at 100%.

Actually, I think a lot of what McGwire and Sosa were using in the 90's wasn't specifically banned. That's one of the holes in the "follow the rules" argument. Sure, we look back and it sure "Looks" like cheating, but there was no technical infraction.

For reference, Frank Thomas was in the low 90s with half reported, but fell to the low 80s. Bags will probably be right on the edge.

Tim Raines reached base more times than Tony Gwynn. Just sayin' :)

Not to prove you wrong, but because I was interested, I looked it up because I could not imagine this would be close, and it was actually very close. So that is interesting to me. However Gwynn got on base 4,158 times and Raines 4,125 times (H+BB+IBB+HBP). I was thinking I may have missed something, (like errors) so I found this list on Baseball Reference
http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/share.cgi?id=TWMe5
and surprisingly did not find Raines nor Gwynn on the list, so I am not sure what I am missing as far as "being on base"...
*edit* Looks like they did not include IBB?

I think you're right about intentional walks. It was simply a note I saw Gammons mention. There's a list on BB Ref about "Times on Base". That said, numbers can be deceiving as Bobby Abreu is higher on that list than Gwynn or Raines lol

IBB is a subset of BB, so you shouldn't include IBB in the formula above, otherwise you'll double-count IBBs.

I agree. Since nobody knew what all was in it or regulated it. Like I said, I think they should all be in. Baseball did a crappy job of stating what exactly was banned and then an even crappier job of enforcing it.

The problem with those two specifically is that HRs was really the only thing they did well, and whether or not steroids were tested for, they were and are an illegal controlled substance.

I second that!

What ever happened to the hall of fame and not the hall of "I was good but played for 20 years and accumulated a lot of stats". Or " the hall of very good"
Really, bc Griffey was ass the last 10 years of his career.
