Yep, I agree the 70%+ list will be pretty short. My latest estimate on my Biggio collection is around 2500 different cards, which would put my percentage around 60%.
Well, a percentage thread like that could get controversial. Lots of questions will come up of what kind of cards count, i.e. do you count 1/1s, Broders, non-card items listed by Beckett, not to mention the whole Beckett good vs. evil thing that often comes up. But hey, try it and see what...
Jeff is a great guy and there is absolutely no chance whatsoever that he is ripping anyone off here. I'm sure there is a good explanation and you will hear from him soon.
How reliable is Steiner? I saw this on their site back in August, and emailed them telling them they had either made a mistake or had a horrifically blatant fake on their hands. They answered back once and after they realized I hadn't actually purchased the item, they stopped answering me...
Oh please, the "fans" have been known to vote players to the All-Star team when they had been on the DL for a huge chunk of the first half. Alomar was a great player, I just don't think it's as obvious a call as you do. To each his own.
I was just going down the list of stats and those were among them. Take it for what it is worth. Along with games played, they indicate that Biggio was on the field more than Alomar, which is worth something.
Actually, they don't. Biggio's and Alomar's stats for the '90s are pretty close. Biggio had more games played, plate appearanes, at-bat, runs, hits, doubles, home runs, stolen bases, walks, total bases, HBP, higher OBP and about half as many GIDP. Alomar had higher RBI, batting average...
I know I'm biased, but I think you have to go with Biggio over Sandberg for 2B of the '90s. Sandberg's decline years were in the '90s and he missed three seasons in the mid to late '90s. I could probably go with Sandberg for the '80s though.
Got mine, thanks! I don't recall having seen one of those before. It was only about $9. Now I'm down to only four cards needed for 1995. Why in the world is it so hard to find the 1995 Ultra On-Base Leaders Gold Medallion and the Sportflix Artist's Proof?
Here's a few more recent pickups. There are also quite a few new scans in my bucket of stuff I've had for quite a while that just never got scanned. Slowly, but surely...
6/20
0003/2025 (only the first 15 are autos)
I had an unnumbered version, which I think came from the Fleer auction...
I'm scanning some of the nicer '90s stuff from my collection today and thought I would post these.
Not too rare, but the scan looks great...
As I recall, I think I picked this up in a random lot of Biggio cards, before I even really knew what it was.
I picked up this 1996 Leaf Signature Platinum Press Proof recently. I noticed when I scanned it today that about one third of the Leaf Signature logo is missing part of it's refractorish finish (not sure what you call it). Is that unusual?
That is the exact problem I have with them. They have a bunch of Biggio cards I need and the prices they list them for are completely outrageous and bear no logical relationship to the market. They put up cards on BIN/Best Offer and when I make very fair, in fact generous, offers they are...
Connecticut in early November is nice, if you are into quaint old towns and fall foliage, maybe some antiquing and seeing historical sites. Otherwise probably not a lot to do. I have no idea where Shelton is, so no idea if it's close to NYC (I know, Connecticut is small, but in that part of...
