I agree. With initial buy ins that high, just imagine how high prices have to go in order to make a profit commensurable with the risk of prospecting 17-20 year olds. Then factor in ebay's 10% fees...
I'm sitting this one out. There is almost no value at this point.
I was really bearish on Lindor in the offseason and have been very surprised at his XBH numbers thus far. He is hitting at a BABIP that will be hard to maintain (.408), but even if his BABIP regresses to a more normal rate, he is hitting the ball very consistently.
My concerns have always...
Well, Bundy dominated the low minors in a historic fashion last year, working his way to a call up into a pennant race (albeit for a couple low leverage innings). Bradley, on the other hand, played very well in the low minors last year.
This year might be a wash because of the injury...
Rumors floating around the A's blogosphere that if Jarrod Parker hits the 15 day DL with this muscle strain, Sonny Gray will get the call up for his MLB debut.
That they were ineffective cheaters doesn't change the fact that they sincerely try to be. Like the monkey testicle drinking Pud Galvin. They were all trying to cheat, and just because they were wrong about it doesn't change their malfeasance.
I'm much more concerned with mens rea than actus...
I'd be curious what players were suspended for, back then. I'll cop to not having been alive during Mickey's playing heydey to remember.
So, players who did PEDs before there were common, long suspensions for them should be in the (ahem) clear?
Because it seems prior to 2005, the two...
So, I assume this (if proven to be real, etc) means his plaque will be put in separate room, along with the PED users?
I mean, both did use their cheats to prolong an aging career and maintain batspeed. Am I missing something? Am I just bored and starting something?
Those do look a little garish to me. A lot of things happening on each card. Die cuts, color refraction, those shiny squares, sticker autographs. I need to lie down.
Myers has pretty much always had a high k%, and that always tends to get amplified as one moves up the ranks. Plus his lefty/right splits are a little inconsistent. He does walk pretty well, and of course his power is great.
Taveras puts a LOT of balls in play (few BB or K), which suggests...
It could mean that. But it is unusual to fail a field sobriety test if you are unimpaired. He may simply have been very tired, which can happen (a little beer + a lot tired = failed field test).
We shall see.
Austin Cousino, Alex Bregman, Tyler Beede, Nick Burdi, Austin Nola, Grayson Greiner and Michael Conforto all announced. More to follow.
Suppose this means my Tyler Beede AFLAC cards won't be worth as much when he gets drafted.
Still not convinced that the Panini cards will sell as well...
Report: Yankees top prospect Mason Williams arrested for DUI - CBSSports.com
Looks like it might not pose too much of a legal problem, as his BAC was under the legal limit, but he failed a field sobriety test. Or it might mean that he was otherwise impaired.
He doesn't look like much of a prospect, but I will be buying some Socrates Brito.
Also, I don't like seeing players that already have Bowman cards on the non-auto prospect checklist, as well as some players that have autos in the set also represented in the non-auto set. I kind of used to...
I mostly kick myself for not selling when the iron is hot.
When I sell and the thing goes on to make more...I remind myself that I will never go broke selling at a profit. My worst (I think) is selling two Addison Russell USA Bowman Ref autos for $20/each a week after the draft, some Almora...
I bought a Jason Esposito Bowman Chrome test from the seller. I'll say this: if they are fakes (and not merely backdoors), then they are damn convincing fakes.
Whenever I buy for prospecting purposes, I put a sticky note on the back of the toploader with how much I paid, my target price and my 'don't think about it, just sell' price, which I normally think of as a 'best-case scenario' price. I'll also make a note of some things that might affect price...
