Let me know if there would be continued interest in this... Or if I'm just wasting my time
On October 14, 1892, the final day of the season, twenty two year old Xenia, OH farm boy Bumpus Jones walked into the Cincinnati Reds clubhouse and told manager Charles Comiskey that he wanted to be a big league pitcher. Comiskey decided to give the brash youngster a chance. Bumpus shocked everyone by pitching a no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his very first game. He played the game without a contract, making him the best bargain in baseball history. Unfortunately, Jones could never recreate the magic of his debut and won only one more game in the majors.
