Re: 1954 Bowman Autograph Set Thread *Updated 7/24* 73.8%!! Done

I got two more ttm today Larry Jansen and Jim Greengrass both in 11 days. I also got the Memo Luna one I never thought I would get thanks to R2D2. These take me up to 166/225 and I am waiting on 1 more to come back ttm.

Finally have another update today Harry Perkowski back ttm in 32 days. This makes number 167 for the set and should hopefully have another one in soon.

Thanks Jeff, I'm reallly hoping to pick up a Pee Wee Reese but neither of the sellers on ebay will come down to reality on their prices. The wife is doing well the doctor says she needs to eat more(don't we all wish we had that problem) because she is 4 and a half months pregnant and weighs 94 pounds. We will find out if its a boy or girl on September 8th.

The set looks fantastic signed, though it looks like there are far too few Pirates in the set for my liking

Hit a milestone today 75%!!! I got George "Shotgun" Shuba in today ttm after paying his $30 fee. I have had this card since November just kept balking at the fee, at the point I am now in the set I finally paid it and at 85 years old Shuba isn't getting any younger. Shuba is famous for his handshake with Jackie Robinson as the two were playing together in the minor leagues.

Re: 1954 Bowman Autograph Set Thread *Updated 9/2* 76%!! Done

Ok so today brought 2 cards for my set both Jim Piersall. Topps signed exclusive contract with Ted Williams, who had been serving in Korea for the previous three years.Bowman was forced to pull card #66 of Williams from its set and replace it with a card of Jimmy Piersall (who was also featured on card #210). I am a bit upset about the writing utensil used on the card as I included both a ball point pen and a fine tip sharpie and asked Mr. Piersall to use either on my cards. I am happy that I was able to get Piersall ttm as he has a 54% success rate on SCN, I used a couple "tricks" given to me by some friends by both use a USPS Flat Rate Envelope thus costing me $5 to ship the card and putting $5 in the envelope even thought Piersall doesn't actually state he charges and writing donation enclosed on the outside of the envelope. These 2 take me up to 171/225 in the set, I may in the future attempt to get these 2 cards redone by sending 2 new cards to Piersall with pens again but for now they fill a hole.

Great work Talmer. Sorry the Piersall's didn't turn out as you hoped, but at least you were able to get him to sign.

Thanks Mark. I do have a PIRATE in the works, Preston Ward, even though he has stopped signing ttm I found someone who is working on getting a private signing done with him.

I've got a question - What are you going to do about the Ted Williams card? Do signed copies exist?

I assume that signed copies have to be out there maybe not maybe not many but I intend to get as far I can get on this set then add unsigned cards to "complete" the set until a signed copy pops up, then I'll move on to another set while still seeking signed copies I need.

That's a heckuva nice signature for an 85 year old man! Congrats on 76% - I can't believe how far you've gotten! Are there any autos in this set that are unobtainable?
