The only guy I collect, Travis Fryman - had an oddball item come up in searches recently I had not seen before. Noticed the seller had other players as well.

So, the question is - is there any validity to any of these? I'm not one to really collect proofs and such, but still wanted to find out what may be real and what may be a fancy inkjet job. Thanks.

I can't say definitively either way, but the one thing that bothers me about this seller's proofs is the DONRUSS 1992 line at the top. On the one slabbed copy I could find, that line isn't printed. A neat item if legit.

I bought a couple of the Donruss "proofs". I don't know for certain, but besides the missing stat line, there were some text differences. They are pretty low tech, but then again, they are not plentiful either.

The seller seems to deal extensively in proofs, from Topps Vault/Archives, etc. I have won a variaty of things from him over the years. I tend to believe that they are either legit or he got them from elsewhere thinking they were legit, but I doubt that he is purposefully offering anything dubious or that he believes/knows to be fake.

Fryman is the same as the one's I bought. It looks like they were cut from a larger sheet, probably a paper print proof. The career hightlights were changed significantly, noting achievements from the prior season on the finished card that were not there on the proof, probably because the proof was made prior to the season completing? I am not sure anyone would go through the effort to delete text from the final version to make a fake proof. I have no idea what kind of effort would be involved in that, but I could see it paying off for superstars, but not more common players.

Thank you for the responses - especially mrmopar for noting the stat differences. I had not dug out my cards to even look at that! Great info - that's why I ask. :)

I have a handful of Pucketts. Including a 1992 Donruss and 1990 Donruss MVP. These are all consistent with mine. For context I've owned mine for probably 10 years at this point. The guy I got my 90 proofs from owned them since the early 90s.

Was Strawberry not in the MVP set at all? If so, that is cool proof. Maybe someone didn't have a photo of Mitchell handy and just tossed in a filler and it happened to be Straw, then someone reviewing the sheet caught it and said..."WTF, that is Straw, not Mitchell!", or that is how it went down in my mind at least.

No he wasn't. He is now by face and penned in name. Or maybe they changed there mind to but Mitchell in.
