These two blank back sets were put out by a company that I believe was called KG Graphics. The 1983 KG Glossy set is listed in Beckett, but the 3x5 set is not. I am only know three cards in the 1983 KG Glossy 3x5 set. Is anyone else aware of any other players?

The earliest evidence of this set I can find is in the April 1985 issue (#11) of Baseball Cards magazine, in a Den's Collectors Den ad. Four 3x5 cards are listed, the three above and a Dale Murphy. The set was listed as "K-G Glossie Prints".

According to the previous issue, the advertisers deadline for submitting ads was January 8, 1985 to make the On Sale Date of February 19, 1985 for issue #11. The magazine was bi-monthly, so we'd need to dig up some issues of SCD from between those two issues to pin it down any better.

That is an awesome find. I've seen the year be quoted as both 1983 and 1985, but I've gone with 1983 to be consistent with Beckett. Thanks so much for the help. To you have a lot of the old mags to looks through?

I've got stacks of several titles I bought big lots of on eBay. I lucked out on most of these as people weren't selling them as "collectibles" but more looking to unload them. And this was a couple of postage rate hikes ago, too. I have the following issues of Baseball Cards:

PSA usually says they won't grade a card that isn't listed in the Standard Catalog. Now I'm wondering if the Standard Catalog dropped all of the unlicensed sets so they could give PSA an excuse not to grade them if they were submitted.

nope, no plans on covering modern any longer. they want to expand on pre-80 stuff

Just like Beckett, after being bought out, they steadily dropped all of their staff. So about the only contributor they have left for the Standard Catalog is Bob Lemke, and he's only part-time/semi-retired. Such is the fate of any creative, content driven effort once it gets bought out by a distribution company. That's one of the biggest problems with the entire publishing industry right now. Maximize profit by cutting costs instead of improving the product.

Surprising that they would turn away business by refusing to grade some cards. I'd like to see that they do with the 1983 Ajax Dog Food set.
