Miles Austin - I don't need to explain this one.

Steve Smith - He really established himself as the Giants clear #1.

Chris Johnson - TNT...he's dynamite. By no means was he off the radar in the past, but WOW to this year.

Percy Harvin/Sidney Rice - Favre made them, or they made Favre? How about a bit of both. I didn't expect that duo to be this good.

Resurrections :

Brett Favre - I think the season with the Jets has been erased from history.

Vince Young - Great or just greater than Collins? Time will tell, but he has a nice record since taking over.

Honorable Mentions and Fizzlers :

Mario Manningham - He showed some great play, but as since come back to Earth.

Pierre Thomas - I never really heard of him until this year, and because of FCB.

Pierre Garcon - Another Pierre proving to be a solid backup/secondary option.

Vernon Davis. Finally playing up to his potential.
NO Defense. Kind of easy to lead the NFL in picks when every team is passing against you because you're up by 28.
Ray Rice
Carson Palmer. Come back player of the year
Ricky Williams.

Good calls.

I completely forgot about Ray Rice! It seems like he's been this good longer since you hear/see him tearing up as much as he does.

How about the entire Bengals team getting "Comeback Player"? Cedric Benson, Carson Palmer, hell even Larry Johnson busted out a 100 yard game.

If you're talking about DeAngelo Williams, his breakout season was last season.

I was going to respond but I am glad that I read the thread first as your pick's are almost exact with what I intended on writing!
Though I think come back player of the year thus far has to be Brett Favre, hell he's giving Peyton Manning & Drew Brees a run for thier money in the MVP chase! :D But I fully agree with V.Davis/Ray Rice being atop the "breakout" list while I like Ricky Williams & then C.Palmer right behind Favre in the "comeback" list! The New Orleans defense has been PHENOMINAL & we should be seeing the entire secondary making an appearance in this year's Pro-Bowl!

A few more names:

Owen Daniels (before his injury that landed him on the IR, Daniels was having an extreme "breakout" campaign as he was atop the leader-board or tied atop the leader-board with Vernon Davis for receiving stats at the TE position).

Brian Cushing...superb defensive play that should justify as "breakout" since he is in fact a rookie (he's a top contender for Defensive Player of the Year/ROY).

Mike Sims-Walker "Breakout"

Alex Smith "Comeback"

Vince Young "Comeback" (right there with Favre/C.Palmer at the top)

Austin Miles "Breakout"

I'm sure there are more to list but I'm drawing a blank :D

How about Dallas Clark? I think this year breaks him out of the high middle of the pack for TE's right up to the top as one of the top 3 TE's if not best.

Wasn't he considered a "Top 3" tight end last year as well?

Rashard Mendenhall?
There's an overlooked one. He may not win the rishing title or anything, but how much has he helped the Steelers over Willie Parker?

What about Alex Smith? I think he's had more TD's this year than his entire career. Also, his first 300 yard passing game.

For 2009 "Broken" Players I would like to nominate the Chicago Bears offensive line.

And Jay Cutler.
When Cutler has a single receiver to throw to and a line that can keep him safe for 5+ seconds, I'll judge him.

Right now, that offensive line makes the running game and passing game suffer...oh...and the Bears still don't have a receiver that isn't a tight end.

If he wasn't 0 for 5 when the outcome of the game is in his hands, I would agree with you.

He has failed countless times. He will never be good.
