And please note. I am talking about the UD symbol ON the hologram - not the shape of the die-cut. I know how these things are applied.

I thought you were talking about the actual design of the die-cut, not the design of the hologram.

1991 Upper Deck alone has like 4-5 different holograms, with some the only difference is the design in the background of the hologram you referenced. Somebody printing off a set of 1989's and listing on eBay wouldn't have a problem moving them because of a background design difference that few would even notice anyway, especially with no reason to look with a discerning eye, IMO.

This thread could be used as exhibit A of obsessed collecting gone wild. My god, the conspiracy theories coming out on someone making a Walt Weis card with a stamp are astounding. Has someone hired a private eye to follow this person around or dig through his trash to see if he is an ex UD employee yet? I am sure we can get his tax returns if we try hard enough.

I am convinced that until someone posts a You Tube video of someone at UD stamping these cards, holding their UD Employee ID, next to their momma verifying its really them, next to a FBI forensics expert with a DNA test stating it is that person as well, nobody here will be fully satisfied someone at UD made these.

Shoot, these guys might be on to something. I was watching Suze Orman and just saw the commercial.

Airing Wednesday, 3/14/12 10 PM EST
American Greed, Episode #51:
An enigmatic sports card forum poster desperate to succeed... and the scam that bilked collectors out of thousands! exp619 lived through the most decadent era in card collecting history. His hunger for hobby relevance and fortune... his greed, ultimately leads to a bridge and a suicide note.

This is the strange story of a con artist who forgot to grab the correct roll of holograms!

So now that Adam has proved a valid point, we're just going to laugh it off and make fun of him?

I love the mob menatality of this board.

Pretty much. Shame when people try to help others avoid headaches and they are too stubborn to listen.

I'll admit I'm no baseball card expert. Not by any stretch if the imagination. And I may not have 100%, written in stone evidence that anything here is fraudulent or a scam. But I have been in business for enough decades to know when something isn't right. When something just doesn't sit well with me. When the red flags start popping up, I always pay attention. And am usually always right. This has had red flags popping up like crazy since day one.

I remember you. You were on the old AOL boards in 1992 spouting off about how these were fake:

Also, how are you trying to help? You have an opinion...it ends there. You really aren't helping. Figure something out, then tell us how you're "always right". I'll send you a cookie.

Well Gwynn,

You're 1 for 2. I was on the old AOL Sportscard room. But I never spoke about or against the Donruss Aqueous Tests, as I've never had an interest in them one way or the other. And I don't believe I was there as far back as 1992. I think I became a regular there around 1996-97. I was big into buying cards like the 1999 UD Griffey Jr game jersey auto /24 and cards of that nature. So, you have me mistaken with someone else.

That still doesn't take away from the fact that myself and others find this whole 1990 Buy back situation to be less than kosher. So let's not try to steer the topic away from the point.

I have already stated that my issue is not with the cards themselves but rather the seller. While I personally believe these cards were back doored I am fine with that. There are many back doored cards in the market and they are legit. These cards may or may not be. The jury is still out. My issue is with the seller and story we are being fed. It doesn't feel eight. If the story someone opens up with doesn't feel right then nothing that follows should. It's all about red flags. It's clear there are many player collectors that just don't care. You want what you want no matter the price and no matter the background. Well I do care. If something stinks and I feel myself or the other members here are being fed a load of bs then I will gladly stand up and point it out. If I am proven wrong I will gladly swollow that pill and apologize. Obviously I'm not the only one that feels this way. Others have spoken up to say the same thing, something is just not right here. Apparently they care too.

Why doesn't someone just post a pic of the cards on UD's facebook page and ask UD if these are legit or not?

or send UD a twitpic of the cards and ask?

I don't think anyone's making fun of anyone.
I do - however - think there are some people out there who are in denial of what kind of stuff people will do to make a quick buck. They jump all over patch fakers, card shillers and all brag about reading Operation Bullpen (not saying this would be anywhere close) - yet, it's totally out of the realm of possibility for this to be a little illegitimate?

I'm just thinking of the odds of a seller at a swap meet somehow getting his hands on complete sets of unreleased stamped buybacks without having any sort of knowledge on their value. It's not like he bought them directly from UD.

Look to pull (2) Game-Used Memorabilia Card and (1) Autographed card per box (on average)

You guys are a trip, this thread is seriously laughable now. I actually had an event of it last night with a group of friends. These icons pretty much some up the reactions. ::facepalm::

Those FEW who continue with their theories keep getting schooled by those with actual knowledge.

Your efforts are futile. The PMs haven't stopped, there's just as much interest as there was Day 1.

So, whats the conclusion.

It's clear as day YOUR opinion doesn't mean sh*t in the card collecting community and your fellow collectors have a mind of their own.

There's really nothing more that needs to be said.

Don't get you (and your friends') ******* all bunched because there are skeptics. It's the way of things.

Like I said, it doesn't matter.

The PMs haven't stopped and those who actually have a Buyback are completely satisfied, skeptics have swayed nobodies opinion. Chalk it up as a L boys.

1. Nobody is getting schooled. There is no actual knowledge about these cards. What Josh posted has nothing to do with these, as that product is out and these cards aren't in it.

2. Of course the PMs haven't stopped. Player collectors have a disease, and that is exactly what you are capitalizing on.

3. The beauty of this being a hobby is that everyone can have whatever opinion they want.

By the way, being a smarmy ****** is always the best way to endear yourself to a community. Of course that doesn't matter since you'll be gone once you have their money.

I understand frustration over questions of legitimacy, but you're pretty pompous.
