I'm not a huge fan of Tate, but his case is an interesting scenario. You have his 2008 SP Authentic USA Patch Autos /50 as well as a base jersey auto /120, his 2009 USA boxed set cards (which I don't think factor into the equation), his 2009 UD USA Auto Jersey /25 (again probably doesn't factor into the equation), his first MLB licensed "pro" card which is an on card auto Aflac, an Elite auto from 2009 as well, and now a first year (or third year, or even second year depending on how you look at it) Bowman w/ Chrome Auto. If you completely disregard the USA stuff, I won't mind you, which of the three (Aflac, Elite, BC) would be preferred? I'm still sticking with the SP Authentic Patch /50 as his best card. At least that would be the one I would be looking for. Any thoughts?

It looks like the 1st Bowman Chrome and 1st Bowman Card is switched on the Tate and Strasburg. It'd make a lot more sense. I mean the 1st bowman card on the Tate would mean it'd be a sticker autograph on a non chrome card (done in the past) and the on card (and similar fade to the Ackley) would make sense on the Strasburg.

For some odd reason, I did not think of that. Would make much sense.

I think you may be on to something there. Although the other difference I notice is they didn't give it
the same shadows/highlights of the Ackley to make it look chrome-like.

Hmm...it's a BOWMAN, not BOWMAN CHROME auto...hmm...

So they can sell Bowman Chrome.

He'll have a green autograph in 2010 BDP as well...

He will be a feature in every single set that he can be in. If he doesn't appear on the major league roster he will be in every bowman product. If he does, he will be in every single Topps product. There is no reason for Topps to not flood the market right now because having him in the set will make the product a hit

In bowman, I'd like to see the following parallel's

Gold (thick)
Blue /500
Orange /250
Red /25
Black & White /5
Platinum 1/1

The thick gold, blue, orange, and then your 1/1 Red is really boring...

Sure, because there will be less copies; but I'd much rather have his Bowman Chrome release. It really apples and oranges and his Chrome will be the more desired regardless of sales price.

This absolutely will affect the Elite this year. Great timing by Topps too. Right before Elite drops. This can not be a mistake.

Obviously it's not a mistake; it's smart marketing on Topps' part. It's a bit early to say just how much EEE will be affected until we see a full checklist.

However, this news isn't coming out of the blue for savvy people. We knew Topps had already signed both Tate and Strasburg to contracts before today, and we also knew Topps would withhold at least a few of the bigger names from 2009 products to give 2010 Bowman a boost.

Exactly. I honestly don't see how this info release has any major effect on EEE. Wasn't the safe assumption that Topps would eventually release autographs of Tate and Ackley? I frankly don't see this as some kind of genius move by Topps. They're reacting predictably to a competitor's product release. I'm sure the folks at Panini didn't expect Topps to just sit on its hands.

The value of EEE will be what it's always been. First, it'll enjoy whatever benefit it gets from being the only player in the field. Then, once the Topps products come out, EEE will lose some of its shine. Bowman will win the battle between autographs that are common to the two brands, and the long term value of EEE will depend mostly on the 'sleepers'.

JP the bolded was a statement not a question. It was no secret what Topps was gonna do when they signed these guys. I am not sure how savvy you would have to be to grasp that. Topps ALWAYS holds guys back for the next product nothing new there. Some people looking forward to the exclusive Eilte autos now know they will be in Bowman this year. It will make a difference for some and some wont care and way over spend like they usually do.

And I treated your post as a statement, not a question.

There are quite a few on these boards who are newcomers to this niche within the hobby, which is who my post was primarily addressed to. I've spoken to some of them via PM recently.

Umm...last I checked AFLAC Tate were # to /244, so obviously they would sell for more than an unnumbered base and a refractor to /500, so I don't see why you would use that for a comparison.
