I gotta think it makes the most sense to only do a redemption process for 1952-1956 cards. After '57 the cards were standard size and can easily be inserted into packs. Like others have said, it's a logistical nightmare to inventory, label and assign redemption codes to cards that in most collectors eyes won't be worth the paper used to print them. Then either Topps eats the cost of packaging and postage or we the collector ponies up the money to have their redeemed card shipped to them. If Topps pays, that equates to a huge expense to the end user (us) at some point in time, either in increased product cost or watered down future product. Alternately, if the collector pays shipping, how many unclaimed cards will Topps have sitting around because nobody wants to pay $2 to have a .03 Danny Heep sent to them. Random insertion is the only thing that makes any sense at all, at least to me.
