Anyone know who the SP's are in 2011 Topps? I bought a couple blasters today and one pack had two Diamond Anniversary parallels. One of them was Ryne Sandberg. Does anyone know if he is an SP in the set or just part of the regular set? Also, are there Diamond Parallel SP's in Series 2?

From baseballcardpedia:

In addition, all 25 cards plus all 24 Legends from Series One will be available in the following parallels.

Platinum Diamond
Canary Diamond (one-of-one)
Hope Diamond (exclusive to 2011 Topps Update)
Cognac Diamond (exclusive to 2011 Topps Update)

355 Bob Feller
375 Andre Dawson
393 Jim Palmer
405 Ryne Sandberg
410 Reggie Jackson (A's)
425 Johnny Mize
435 Pee Wee Reese
450 Mickey Mantle
460 Robin Roberts
480 Roberto Alomar
510 Hank Aaron
516 Tom Seaver
530 Sandy Koufax
570 Bert Blyleven
590 Juan Marichal
626 Nolan Ryan
630 Joe Morgan
640 Eddie Mathews
645 Bob Gibson
650 Frank Robinson
660 Brooks Robinson
??? Duke Snider
??? John Smoltz

I like the concept well enough but I'm tired of seeing the same names every year. The Blyleven is a nice touch, but I think Frank Robinson has made 3 appearances already.

The only new additions this Series are Smoltz,Aaron,Koufax,Blyleven,Feller and Alomar.I was hoping for a few more.Gary Carter and Al Kaline have been in their insert sets so they could have used them.Same with Monte Irvin.

If the Hope parallels are the same color as the actual Hope Diamond, they might be the most attractive Topps parallels ever.

So, I only opened a couple of packs of series 1, but all of the Diamond Parallels I pulled had a mirror/refractor finish over top of the cracked foil finish. I just got the series 2 Frank Thomas in, and it only has the foil finish, no refractor layer. Are all series 2 Diamond Parallels sans the refractor finish?

Got a scan? I was just about to start searching for the "variation thread". I'm putting the sparkle set together and have noticed that on some cards the "cracked x layer" covers the entire card (including the player photo) and some cover all areas of the card EXCEPT the player photo (the background of the photo is "cracked"). To me it looks like all players have this variation but I haven't even come close to confirming that. I'm guessing its a manufacturing variation

I hope there is a Frank version with the refractor coating, they look a lot better with it, but I can't find one.

I'll be damned. Looks like the "legend variations" are all missing it but hard to tell by all the scans. I've got a couple incoming and will have to check them out. Could have something to do with the last minute addition of the legends as Diamond parallels? Its a theory at least

Aren't the retired players SP?

And to add accurate info to the thread, the Diamond Anniversary parallels of the retired stars are not SP'd any more than any other Diamond parallel. Only the base card versions are SPs
